SF also coordinates special teams, who have been very good.

First, TE/HB play has been atrocious under Fountain. Huge liability for two straight years but at least it showed promise the last couple games going into next year.

Our special teams are atrocious. We lost a NC, given up TDs on punt/KOs and have very few KO return TDs since Fountain took over.

Keep in mind ST coordinator does not train K/P. They see specialists in the off season and then do their own kicking practice. Scott Fountain isn't some K expert for Parkey/Carlson

He's a mixed bag because our QB play this year was so bad that hard to judge how he is as a WR coach. If he was moved to QB coach he'd be worth it for sure.

Not sure why $ always comes into discussion on hires. We're not under a staff salary cap

Realistically, how high do you think we could actually afford to pay assistants?

People always state how money is never an issue, but I'm curious just how high we could go.

Depends if we are winning/projected to win with them or not.

If we rattled off NC, 2 SEC and four 10+ win seasons in 5 years?

$8-10mil doesn't seem unreasonable with increased revenue + donor support.

TE/HB play

When was the last time we saw a TE play? Serious question.

When's the last time we've had as many good punt and kickoff returns under one coach? Kicking and punting have been really good. Lol at calling special teams atrocious

They are bad? As a whole, I think they have been good, most certainly not atrocious. I suppose you guys forget the days AU couldn't even field a damned punt return.

Exactly, it used to be a miracle if we caught a punt

No idea. Salaries are continuing to rise

We've churned so many assistants over the years that it's taking more $ to lure folks away from more stable jobs. I think we're finding out as fans that maybe we don't like the kind of folks that are willing to take the paycheck over job stability.

We get it... Fountain gets all the blame with STs fail.... and none of the praise when they perform well... and since none of us are in the meeting rooms, we don't actually know how the responsibilities shake out.

We haven't had a functioning TE... but that hasn't stopped us from signing two solid TE prospects in the last two classes... Jalen Harris and Landon Rice. Good fullbacks should let these guys concentrate on tight end... we'll see.

The ST coach has next to zero impact on kicking and punting. His work is in the coverage and return schemes. Under Fountain, those have been bad. There was a sharp downturn when Boulware left and it isn't hard to see that.

How many punt and kickoff returns do we allow? And know we've done really well on returns

What are the ST failures you're referring to if we aren't allowed to include pure kicking stats? Is it the #1 in the SEC 30+ kickoff return stat? The #7 20+ yard punt return stat? The zero blocks allowed on a field goal? Is it the only 1 TD allowed on opponent kickoff/punt returns? Please tell me exactly what area this bad ST play is?

I'd also include two successful fake punts.

The one thing that will stick in everyone's mind is the PR TD against UGA. The timing was crappy, but with as many times as we punted this year, it's a miracle it only happened once...
