Helton is the main target.

Unless Helton isn't wanted by USC, he isn't leaving USC for Auburn

If USC doesn't want him, no reason for us to want him.

Venables.

So your backup is a career DC? Sounds legit

Even then, there is a large number of people who believe Venables is waiting to take over at KState his alma mater

You don't know who Clay Helton is
You don't know that Tulsa went 5-14 before Phil Montgomery showed up

Do you even pay attention to CFB / know how to use Google?

I would love to just offer Gary Patterson the house and be done with it. However I think the perception of AU by stronger coaches is a place that you have to give up your autonomy to a point. I personally think this is how we ended up with Chizik and Gus. ( Jay Jacobs as AD didnt help either but see my previous point.) Unless that changes we will be looking at someone like Montgomery or Bobo type coaches.

It was a joke, considering someone wanted us to hire the fricking USC coach that is underachieving there already.

Trust me I pay attention than most here no need to question

ETA he could have been talking about his dad

Gary Patterson is a great coach, but he'd fail at Auburn at this stage in his career.

His success right now is thanks to their offense + culture/support/ TX connections Patterson has cultivated over the years. He won't have that at AU and will make it near impossible for a near 60yr old guy to win

Patterson is a defensive minded coach. I don't expect that offense to migrate over to the SEC with Patterson if he were to come. That would be like Texas Tech hiring Gus and expecting him to bring the 2017 AU quality defense

You want someone who has done a worse job at CSU than Butterteeth? Hell no. If we can't do better than Mike Bono, we should just quit playing football.

You mean the coach who is #10 (6-1), who appeared AND won USC's first Rose bowl since Pete Carrol era a decade ago?
Same guy who hasn't lost a game to an unranked opponent?

You really don't watch CFB do you?

I said I wanted Gary Patterson or some established coach. However the reality may be , depends if we hire a new AD first, which seems unlikely in the time frame. That we offer Bobo or Montgomery type coaches. However, CSU scored more points on Alabama than Ole Miss, ATm, and Arky. In the words of our current coach it wouldnt be the end of the world.

Yeah since post carrol era was riddled with sanctions and awful coaches. Washington is the dominant team in that conference let me know when he wins that conference with superior talent.

My friend of a friend in the athletic dept says I watch more than you

The same Washington that Helton's USC beat in WA last year?

So your saying that Helton inherited a program with years terrible development & coaching, coming off crippling sanctions, and was able to rise to #9 with a Rose Bowl victory?

Sounds like an underachiever

Give their recruiting rankings again

And where do they make it to this year? Make the championship game?

Lots is saltiness on this board ATM. It won’t compare to the moment Gus is announced back for next season.

You mean like the #13 2013 recruiting class that had only 12 recruits, of which at least 4 transferred away from USC?

Or maybe the #10 2014 class which would be seniors this year and doesn't have 4 of the top 5 recruits?

Got to assume Pac12 Championship game is expectation which is what he is on path to do

He may end up underachieving, but to claim he hasn't done well at USC thus far is a joke

Ok so let's hire a guy that can't even make the conference championship at USC with an NFL qb. Point made, good talk
