No indication that Lawson has been cleared by doctors. He's more than likely in Lexington for moral support.

PM expects JJ to start

Tre Williams and Tim Irvin are healthy and will play

Hope he doesn't get hurt on the sidelines.

I don't understand this.

JJ has been a pick machine and looks like a deer in the headlights. I understand it's most likely the yips.

I thought SW looked very good the last two game. Play calling absolutely didn't help, but he played with fire.

Can someone please point out why SW apparently can't throw the deep ball? I see that criticism thrown around on the board, but where is the proof?

If JJ does get to start how many turnovers is he allowed before getting benched (again)?

I don't think SW has looked like anything that could turn this season around. He has looked serviceable at best on an O that needs more than that from its QB. Blaming the play calling doesn't reflect an honest assessment of his inability to make some tough throws, poor choices that could have been picks that weren't and of course he fumbles a lot.

I have said over and over again it is unfair to be overly critical about SW he is young. But specific to your questions the few deep balls he has thrown looked as if they were just lobbed up and could have been picks as easy as receptions or incompletions. He had a chance to hit JS in stride and missed him, etc...When he throws the ball there is a lack of zip on it that should concern anyone watching him play. Add that to the fact that he looks like a kid playing with boys and has fumbled a few times and it isn't hard to see why they may be trying to go back to JJ.

JJ may still be a deer in headlights, but QB's have bounced back from that in the past and will do so again in the future.

I would believe JJ will be on a short leash if he does start.

Not a fair assessment of SW. He's made a couple throws that lacked zip, but most have looked just fine. Smith altered his route on that deep throw. This has been discussed time and time again. The ball still should of been caught. The play calling absolutely has been a factor..you can't expect SW to throw the ball 10 times in a game and see an improvement. Not counting the o-line looked like shite in the SJSU game. SW stood in there and took some hits. JJ is timid and shy's away from contact. I'll support JJ if he starts, but SW has done nothing to lose the starting job at this point. We ultimately don't really know his potential. JJ may have a high ceiling and that's what Gus has in mind, but if the game is to fast for you that is hard to fix. That appears to be the case with JJ.

But that is the best we have right now. I have no idea why JJ has gone in the tank, but he has. Hopefully he has washed the funk off of him. SW is in no way the reason why our O has continued to sputter.

Sean White looked like when Clint Mosely took over in 2011. He didn't do bad and wasn't that much of a liability but he clearly didn't have what it took to win games.

Sorry, but I saw someone with potential who was held back because of poor play calling, poor O line performance and some drops by receivers.

I like JJ's potential. He is a big guy. Hopefully things have slowed down in his head. Good to have Tre back.

How can anyone make this assessment? Even more, how can one say it is clear? The coaches didn't give him much of a chance with the play calling. He performed as well as could be expected with what he was asked to do.

I agree with this. Gus likes JJ for his potential, and doesn't want to give up on him. No one can say they know what SW can do by the play calling so far.

I'm not saying SW is bad or that he can't make plays, just that in the MSU/SJSU games he never capitalized on the opportunities he got.

His long passes also were not excellent which if you read the "OC" thread you'll know why that is a requirement

Hell, maybe JJ having a couple of games to catch his breath and calm the frick down and get coached up has helped him.

With the sample size White's long passes have been better than JJ. SW hasn't been asked to throw the ball deep hardly at all. The pass to Smith should of been caught..if Smith doesn't go to far inside the ball hits him in stride and its 6 points.
