DJ Durkin is intriguing.... fantastic recruiter and has SEC coordinator experience. Also worked for Harbaugh.
He's like muschamp... with more upside.

Plenty of coaches have been fired to have success later on. Both these guys inherited cruddy situations
Think of it this way, Muschamp has had better offenses than Jim McElwain, an "offensive minded coach"
I don't think Muschamp was ready for the challenges he inherited from Urban Meyer. I think he is going to do extremely well at South Carolina

If we are looking for a coach and don't have him on our shortlist, our AD made a mistake

Meh. I don't think this is that impressive
Harbaugh is so big a personality and force like Saban or Belichick, there is a reason their underlings usually don't success
Durkin though has success outside of Harbaugh which I find impressive

buncha hot names that look great from afar -- Gus did too at one time.

McElwain's failures on offense doesn't prove to me that Muschamp got a tough draw at UF.

Was Gus ever really a "hot" name?

No
Every Auburn fan I knew save a few melted when he was hired

Meh, we weren't happy when we hired him.
There are some hot names, but Durkin/Fleck are probably the best "young risers" we could snag

Fleck is the only name I'm seeing that wouldnt be a completely meh hire. Strong or Durkin are doing nothing for me. Mike Bobo? do you all just not like beating UGA?
Posted on 9/11/17 at 8:33 pm to AUTiger45
Not taking up for Bobo, but he was MR best OC. He knows the state of GA better than anyone. He wouldn't be the worst.

Bill Clark.
He will build UAB into a program that competes in CUSA like Troy does in the Sun Belt by next season.
He's built perennial championship contenders at literally every stop he's been at.
Hell, if the UA BOT wouldn't do everything in their power to ruin it then I wouldn't be surprised if he had UAB closer to a Boise State level than a Troy level.
Clark will be HC of a P5 school within the next 5 years, and if we aren't the ones to snatch him up then we will regret it.

Why exactly? Strong extremely track record as coordinator + great start for Maryland
Yr 1- Inherited 3-9 team transitioning to Big10 made bowl game 6-7
Yr 2- Started 2-0, beat Texas in Austin

Downvote me but I want Auburn to take it to the next level. I want rivals shitting themselves and Saban to get upset with our hire. We're the 12th-13th best program of all time, if we want to become elite we need to do something drastic. No retreads, no reaching, no settling. We can't if we want to be consistently great and beat the shite out of our opponents.
New President, Fire JJ and anyone drinking his koolaid. We all know this is step one. Full colonoscopy. Step two, hire an AD with some huge balls with some real world experience, no Auburn connections. Pay them, it will pay dividends. Then get some high powered alumni to visit Auburn and with the AD tell the BoT that football is what fricking matters here, and that the only way they will support (and donate) is if they stay the frick out of it. They've never done any good anyways and they'll look like heroes if they gtfo of the way. Demolish the good ole boy nonsense, frick the shitty arse PTB, it's 2017.
Then go make every big name college coach's agent, NFL OC/DC, every damn body say no, starting at the top of the list. Tell them they need to have some big arse balls if they want this job and that their job is to get this program to the top. Playoffs is goal every year. You're going to hand them the keys to the whole program. You're going to build a performance based contract that will put them at Saban money if they perform.
Auburn fans will support the shite out of a year-after-year dominant program, WAY more than many current elite programs fans. We have been starving for it for decades. The money will come in droves, facilities will be upgraded, and we will be in contention every year. We need an asteroid impact that puts even Bama on notice.
If we shoot for less, we are going to get less, we will continue down this road we have since 1890. We are all fricking ready for this. I don't know who fits the bill, who has the set it takes to do this, but it's long overdo, it's time to make it happen.

So all we need is something that does not exist.

I laughed. He would have to hire some serious, serious recruiters since he loathes today's recruiting game and tactics. Would be interesting to see a traditional offense now that the league has a lot of spreads, and defenses built to oppose them. Him with Steele would be insane on defense. And we know he doesn't give a rats arse about Saban.

Also if there's one athletics department in the country that's in a worse "good ol' boys" shape than ours, its Texas. I'd be willing to give Strong another shot based off of what he did at Louisville and as a coordinator but
