Thread title is realistic coaches AU could get. Brohm, GP at TCU, CU's DC are actual options.

Oh yeah, lets hire the guy who personally tried to sabotage our 2010 season and pay him millions of dollars.

let me preface this by saying I hate dan merlins but the flip side of that is it shows he is cut throat enough to compete with bammer.

I wonder why, through Will Muschamp and biw Jim McElwain, the University of Florida with one of the best AD's in the country won't touch him with a 10 foot pole?

Guess he's good enough for some Auburn fans to "settle" though.

I would be about as happy with hiring merlins as I was with gus, which is to say not very.

let's start by having a baseline experience of a winning record in a P5 conference

See, that's just not reality.... even for real blue bloods like Texas and USCw. Or UGA... or Oklahoma... or Florida... or Florida State... or Clemson... Stanford... Oregon with chip kelly (or Mike bellotti). Mike Gundy was an OC for mile before getting the HC job at OSU.

Tons of programs have major success with guys who have zero head coaching experience... let alone at the P5 level.

IDC at this point. I want Gus gone. I am tired of his shite. I want a new direction.

I agree with this, but if you go the coordinator route, you better get a guy who has learned from the absolute best. Gus didn't do that.

We're gonna have to take a chance on somebody... outside of the very rare occasions (harbaugh, urban, saban), pretty much every head coaching hire is a gamble.

I'm ready for a change... I just hope the wheels don't fall off over the next two months. 7-5ish with a mutual parting of ways is best case scenario for everyone. The situation heading into 2018 would be pretty solid for the next guy (assuming we don't suffer from a ton of transfers, but it's inevitable some will leave).

The foundation right now is solid... sets up well for the next guy. Unfortunately, TAMU will likely be open as well.

One more thing on a coaching change... I'd be in favor of bringing in a young offensive minded HC, with the hopes we could keep the core of our defensive coaching staff together (Steele, Twill, Garner)... would be huge for continuity in recruiting and 2018 season.

Patterson ain't coming. That ship sailed years ago. No way he leaves TCU now that they are Big-12. TCU is a more prestigious program than Texas, Baylor and Texas Tech.

Besides, he ain't gonna come to AU to face off against Saban. Honestly, most coaches probably put the AU job pretty far down on their list for this reason. You can't win here until Saban retires.

Who I wish we could get:
- Will Muschamp
- DJ Durkin

Would also be an upgrade over Gus:
- Chad Morris
- Lane Kiffin
- Mike Bobo

How is that different from any SEC school? Saban rustles LSU more than us.

This name should stop coming up. We do not need a .500 Mountain West coach.

This is such a huge misnomer it's hilarious. You're telling me that we can't win with Saban at Alabama yet our program has had 2 of their best seasons ever since he was hired?
