KN has update on 4* LB JJ Peterson visit from earlier this week. Says still hasn't been able to talk to Peterson but spoke with some people close to AU. This was Peterson's first face to face meeting with T-WILL and apparently they really hit it off. AU feels this visit went extremely well and they are firmly in his top 3. Bama still leads but AU might be making a play for #2 over UGA. A very important relationship in our favor is Chip Lindsey and Colquitt County HC Rush Propst. The two are very close and Propst was ecstatic Lindsey got the OC job. Always helps to have the HC in your corner. Sounds like we will get an official visit in the fall. AU hoping to get him back on campus for Big Cat Weekend

Auburn has been most clear about Andres Fox’s defensive fit, which gives Tigers edge (SECCountry)
quote:

Auburn sitting pretty for Mobile-area DE

MOBILE, Ala. — Aside from terrorizing offensive linemen, Andres Fox is a pretty mellow guy.

He doesn’t like to talk about himself much. He’d rather talk about his teammates, which is what he does when coaches or reporters ask him about Mobile Christian. When it comes to his own play and recruitment, he’d rather let the film do the talking, as it did last fall when his state championship tape led Auburn to offer, followed by virtually everyone else.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound pass rusher gets asked about himself a lot nowadays. That’s what happens when Auburn, LSU and Alabama make you a top priority.

His high school coach, Ronnie Cottrell, marvels at Fox’s maturity and composure with the process.

“When we first met with Andres when all this started, he made the statement to me that he wanted to have a team in place or at least commit before the football season. He said he wanted to worry about this team,” Cottrell said. “I thought that was one of the greatest things I’ve ever heard a kid say.”

Fox confirmed Thursday that he expects to have a decision shortly before the 2017 football season.

When it happens, all the other suitors will be out of it: “When I commit, I’ll stay dedicated to that school,” Fox said.

The underrated 3-star defensive end from Mobile has started to condense his options. With programs all over the country — Stanford, USC, Penn State, among others — coming to the small school on the Gulf Coast to recruit him, it became somewhat overwhelming, so he narrowed his top list of schools.

Fox has labeled that top group as Auburn, Alabama and LSU for more than a month now, but said Oregon, Florida and Notre Dame are programs that could be factors. My opinion here: The 3 he lists as his top group are really the only programs with a shot.

When talking about his top 3, Fox gave an unsolicited endorsement of one program in particular.

“I just really like Auburn’s defense,” Fox said. “I feel like I fit in real well. I fit into the defense really well. … Plus, they have a great engineering program. I want to study mechanical engineering.”

One factor is family. Fox admits his parents are both Alabama fans, as he was in his pre-high school days. But — and let this be very clear — none of that will play a factor in Fox’s recruitment.

Reading between the lines, Fox has become infatuated with Auburn more than any other program, which stems from a few things. First, the Tigers offered the night of the state championship game in Jordan-Hare Stadium. Second, Fox’s relationship with Auburn’s coaching staff runs deeper than with any others.

“I’m closest with T-Will [Travis Williams]. He’s just fun and cool to be around. And Rodney Garner,” Fox said.

Cottrell doubled down on his star defensive lineman’s comments.

“Auburn, since the very beginning, it’s been a team effort. I’ve heard from all those guys,” Cottrell said. “Kevin Steele has been very specific with the position and what they wanted him to play, exactly where he fit in. He’s a key guy for them because of the position he plays. But T-Williams recruits our schools, does a great job. The best relationship he has with all the coaches is Rodney Garner. They’ve got a good relationship as far as position coaches.”

Here’s some subjective commentary on my part.

After I left my visit at Mobile Christian, I put in a Crystal Ball prediction for Fox to Auburn. It really didn’t take much hesitation. Yes, Fox’s family likes Alabama, and that has likely played a small role in why he hasn’t committed to any program yet. But even though Alabama and LSU consider Fox their top guy, Auburn has been most clear about exactly how it plans to use Fox in the Buck defensive lineman spot.

He will continue to check things out throughout the spring and summer, but when the 2017 season approaches, I firmly expect Fox will commit to the Auburn class.

He's visiting Bama today so it will be interesting to see if they make a move or not. If they don't then I might finally come around to believing we get this kid. Sounds like we have done a great job recruiting him. I am concerned about his family pushing him to Bama. Has said he has thought about committing to AU a few times but parents told him to hold out. We will see what happens

State of Alabama recruiting insider: Day 5 on the road (SECCountry)
quote:

Our weeklong recruiting journey across the state of Alabama has come to a close.

It was quite a week.

We made it to a dozen high schools throughout the Yellowhammer State — including a brief excursion to Pensacola, Fla. It allowed Alabama recruiting reporter Chris Kirschner and me to speak with some of the top 2018 and 2019 college football prospects across the state, which resulted in plenty of Alabama and Auburn scoops.

The final trek of the journey took us to see 3 prospects: 2019 dual-threat quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa, 2018 defensive tackle Jalen Cunningham and 2019 offensive lineman Clay Webb.

Here are the quick-hit items from those interviews. Check back later for more in-depth updates from these visits.

4-star 2019 QB Taulia Tagovailoa, Thompson

Kirschner: Tagovailoa and his family moved to Alabama from Hawaii about 3 weeks ago. He’s getting acclimated to Thompson High in Alabaster, Ala., and his new life on the mainland.

With his obvious connection to Alabama via his older brother Tua, the Crimson Tide have a clear advantage. Taulia and Tua are close, and Taulia would like the opportunity to follow in his older brother’s footsteps. When he received an Alabama offer last year, Taulia wanted to commit on the spot. His family told him he should hold off because he was too young at the time.

Now that he’s in Alabama, Taulia can visit Tuscaloosa, develop better relationships with the staff and perhaps become the next Tagovailoa at quarterback for Alabama. He planned to attend A-Day.

Wolk: The charming Tagovailoa smile Crimson Tide fans have grown to love with early enrollee quarterback Tua Tagovailoa can now be found just south of Birmingham, where younger brother Taulia Tagovailoa is the new quarterback at Thompson High. Taulia is new to the state — his family recently moved from Honolulu — but he has quickly fallen in love with the area, his coaches and teammates.

Taulia will likely become a big-time prospect in the coming months as programs are able to evaluate him more thoroughly, thanks to proximity. It stands to reason that Taulia will land at Alabama with his brother, but it’s really too early to call at this point. Taulia has taken a hands-off approach with his recruitment, letting his father focus on conversations with college coaches.

There ya go Bama take this kid and Bear Bryant's grandson and stay the frick away from Bo Nix

3-star DT Jalen Cunningham, St. Clair County

Kirschner: Cunningham is a big-time Alabama fan. His license plate on the front of his car is the Alabama logo. On the back of his car, there’s another Alabama logo. His lanyard for his keys is Alabama-themed.

The Crimson Tide lead for Cunningham, and they have since they day he got offered. A 6-foot-5, 360-pound prospect, Cunningham is doing his due diligence, though, and putting aside his Alabama fandom to see if there’s another program that can match what Alabama has to offer. It would come as a major surprise if he ended up committing to anywhere other than Alabama. He would like to make a decision before his senior season begins this fall at St. Clair County High in Odenville, Ala.

Wolk: When Cunningham released a top 5 last week, Auburn wasn’t on the list. That’s because, at the time, Cunningham believed he hadn’t yet been offered by the Tigers. Cunningham attended Auburn’s junior day earlier this spring and left without an offer, or so he thought.

Last week, Gus Malzahn and Rodney Garner gave Cunningham a call to inform him that he did, in fact, have an Auburn offer. Cunningham said Friday that the Auburn offer will restructure his top 5. He’ll likely release an updated version of that list over the weekend. Still, Alabama remains the team to beat with Ole Miss at No. 2. There are a few programs — LSU especially — Cunningham hopes to receive offers from this spring.

An LSU offer could cause a major shakeup for Cunningham. Regarding Auburn, Cunningham said Garner wants to evaluate him a little more. Garner told him that he would be at St. Clair County’s first spring practice May 1 to continue that evaluation.

This is second time this month a recruit has said didn't realize he had an offer from AU. Maybe we should start yelling "YOU HAVE A FRICKING OFFER" so that this stops happening...

5-star 2019 OL Clay Webb, Oxford

Kirschner: Webb’s recruitment is shaping up to be an Iron Bowl battle. Webb’s relationship with offensive line coach Brent Key gives Alabama an advantage. Of coaches he communicates with, Webb said, Key is recruiting him the hardest. Webb also sees some of himself in Key, which he says is important.

With both of the in-state schools, Webb said he’s had feelings of wanting to commit. Like Cunningham, though, Webb wants to visit schools outside the state to see if they can match his feelings at Alabama and Auburn. If any school outside the state of Alabama has a slight chance to get his commitment, it would be Georgia. Webb’s uncle attended Georgia, and he jokes with Webb often about how he wants to see his nephew in a Bulldogs uniform. Webb planned to be in Athens for Georgia’s spring game.

But when it comes time to make a decision, the in-state schools will be the likely finalists. Of note: Webb would like to play with 2019 4-star tackle Pierce Quick, who will likely choose Alabama.

Wolk: For a while now, Webb has said he likely would not leave the state of Alabama. Auburn and Alabama remain the primary suitors, but Georgia could enter the equation if the Bulldogs have a successful G-Day visit. Webb planned to attend Georgia’s spring game instead of Alabama’s because of a conversation with Georgia offensive line coach Sam Pittman.

Webb said his closest relationship is with Alabama offensive line coach Brent Key, but he also has a strong connection with Auburn offensive line coach Herb Hand. Those relationships, he said, will make it difficult to differentiate between the schools. Webb also mentioned his close relationship with Auburn defensive line coach Rodney Garner, who is the only non-offensive line coach to be a major player in Webb’s recruitment.

So just read VIP article on Bama site about 3* DE Andres Fox. He does have family members pushing him to Bama. Hopefully kid is allowed to choose where he wants to go. If that's the case he lands at AU but I don't have a ton of confidence yet when you got family members pushing you in another direction

Bama offered 4* LB Channing Tindall. We are a contender but I think we have a few guys ahead of him on list. Goes to T-WILL's old high school

So 3 biggest rivals have spring games today. Thought it would be interesting to see who they expect there. Chance a few AU targets jump off the board today and commit elsewhere

First up Alabama

Stacked A-Day visitors list highlighted by 5-star prospects and recruits committed elsewhere (SECCountry)
quote:

2018/2019 Alabama commits

Jordan Davis, 4-star defensive end/outside linebacker, Memphis

Trey Sanders, 2019 4-star athlete, Bradenton, Fla.

Xavier Williams, 4-star wide receiver, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Important name not listed there in 4* RB Dameon Pierce

quote:

2018 prospects committed elsewhere

Emil Ekiyor, 4-star offensive guard, Indianapolis — Michigan

Malik Heath, 4-star wide receiver, Callaway, Miss. — Mississippi State

Kelvin Joseph, 4-star cornerback, Baton Rouge, La. — LSU

Evan McPherson, unranked kicker, Fort Payne, Ala. — Mississippi State

Christian Meadows, 3-star offensive guard, Montezuma, Ga. — Florida State

Otis Reese, 4-star safety, Leesburg, Ga. — Michigan

Not sure if it's confirmed yet if Joseph is going there or LSU this weekend

quote:

Alabama targets with Tide offer

Jerome Carvin, 3-star offensive tackle, Cordova, Tenn.

Lejond Cavazos, 2020 safety, Cibolo, Texas

Jacob Copeland, 4-star wide receiver, Pensacola, Fla.

Andres Fox, 3-star defensive end, Mobile, Ala.

Matthew Hill, 4-star athlete, Snellville, Ga.

Tyneil Hopper, 4-star tight end, Roswell, Ga.

Jaycee Horn, 3-star cornerback, Alpharetta, Ga.

Vernon Jackson, 3-star defensive end, Boling, Texas

Harold Joiner, 4-star running back, Mountain Brook, Ala. — maybe

Cameron Latu, 4-star outside linebacker, Salt Lake City

Devonta Lee, 2019 4-star wide receiver, Amite, La.

Myles Mason, 4-star safety, Pleasant Grove, Ala.

Coynis Miller, 4-star defensive tackle, Birmingham, Ala.

Jaylen McCollough, 2019 4-star safety, Powder Springs, Ga.

Nicholas Petit-Frere, 4-star offensive tackle, Tampa

Pierce Quick, 2019 4-star offensive tackle, Trussvile, Ala.

Jammie Robinson, 2019 defensive back, Cordele, Ga.

Justyn Ross, 5-star wide receiver, Phenix City, Ala.

Christian Tutt, 4-star cornerback, Thomson, Ga.

Reuben Unije, 4-star offensive tackle, Bradenton, Fla.

Quay Walker, 4-star outside linebacker, Cordele, Ga.

Brian Williams, 5-star safety, Dallas

Lots of AU guys on that list. I think Quay Walker and Pierce Quick are on commit watch for the Tide. Also it's been confirmed Devonte Lee will be at LSU and not Bama today. He has AU offer and has visited but sounds like we have lots of work to get into that race.

Nick Turner, athlete, Wetumpka, Ala.

James Williams, defensive tackle, Callaway, Miss.

Jamontavius Woods, wide receiver, Gadsden City, Ala.

Alondae Vasser, wide receiver, Alabaster, Ala.

Curious to see if Asa makes the trip. Also wonder if McClain will land an offer. LSU scares me most with him right now so actually happier he going to Bama than LSU this weekend

James Cook is expected to visit AU this summer and his commitment to FSU seems soft right now. Cameron Wire is another name to watch. He really likes AU and has an offer from us but I think he's holding out for one from LSU. If he doesn't get one he might come in play for us down the line. Other than that not a lot of crossover in AU guys

Larry Scott, LB (Ferriday, La.)

2020

T.J. Finley, QB (Hammond, La.)

Mentioned Devonte Lee above also AU is a player early with Devin Bush, we were one of his first offers. I would love for AU to steal John Emery out of LA. Dude is a beast but I have a feeling it ends up another LSU/Bama battle

Can't seem to find a free list on UGA's day so here's some names that are supposed to be there

5* RB Zamir White -> those assholes are gonna land this kid
4* OG Trey Hill
4* LB JJ Peterson
4* OT Dylan Wonnum -> Jalil Irvin's buddy
4* LB Channing Tindall
4* LB Marqeuz Ezzard -> could be on commit watch for UGA
2019 CB Jalen Perry -> AU offered this week along with UGA
2019 TE Ryland Goede
2019 WR Dominick Blaylock
2019 OG Keiondre Jones
2019 LB King Mwikuta -> AU #3 behind Bama & UGA
2019 WR Kobe Hudson
2019 LB Owen Pappoe
2019 LB JD Bertrand
2019 RB Ronald Thompkins
2020 ATH Cartavious Bigsby

Outside of Ezzard don't see anyone on that list I think commits this weekend that would really affect AU. Brenton Cox is supposed to commit soon between UGA & OHST but we really aren't players with that guy anymore. Only thing is he and Ezzard claim they are package deal so we want him to commit to Buckeyes. Could end the package deal notion and give us a better shot at him

ESPN released their new top 300 rankings this week. Like usual favors kids who are going to UA All-American Game. Here's list of AU targets/commits

#19 DE Brenton Cox
#22 OT Nicholas Petit-Frere
#24 ATH Joey Gatewood (AU Commit)
#25 OG Trey Hill
#26 WR Kearis Jackson --> I actually agree with this ranking, my 2nd favorite WR this class
#44 WR Jacob Copeland
#54 OT William Barnes
#60 WR Anthony Schwartz --> WAY overrated. Kid is fast and that's basically it
#62 OT Dylan Wonnum
#73 RB James Cook (FSU Commit)
#81 WR Justyn Ross --> This is dumb
#90 LB JJ Peterson
#92 ATH Harold Joiner
#100 RB Dameon Pirece (Bama Commit)
#101 WR Lawrence Keys --> Seems a bit high
#103 ATH Seth Williams
#114 S Quindarious Monday
#117 QB Gerry Bohanon
#121 OT Richard Gouraige
#131 WR Matthew Hill
#135 DE Andres Fox --> Starting to get bumped up in rankings
#159 CB Jaycee Horn
#180 LB Quay Walker
#223 CB Jalyn Armour-Davis --> seems a bit low
#229 LB Zakoby McClain
#234 S Myles Mason
#244 OG Tank Jenkins
#245 DT Alfred Thomas
#251 WR Marquez Ezzard
#261 LB Channing Tindall
#271 DE Azeez Ojulari
#273 LB Quin Williams
#274 S Brendon Harris --> low imo
#283 RB Shaun Shivers (AU Commit)
#287 DT Coynis Miller --> WAY to low

Notable Snubs

OG Jalil Irvin --> ranked #4 C by ESPN but given a 79 grade which is a 3*
LB Michael Harris --> still unrated, I think he's best LB in southeast
RB Asa Martin --> Still ranked a 4* but not in top 300. Honestly I am not sold on him yet either
RB Master Teague --> He's rated a 75 which is criminal. My favorite RB target
TE Tyneil Hopper --> Rated a 3* which is dumb

Sounds like LSU might have picked up 3 commits from same school, Rome High School. They include UGA commit 4* LB Adam Anderson, 3* DE Jamarcus Chatman and 3* DT Jaquon Griffin. If true that's a solid haul though it seems like LSU is taking everybody right now, will be interesting to see if there are some scholarships dropped at end of cycle

BREAKING: LSU grabs 3 commits in Georgia (247)
quote:

Saturday's LSU Spring Game will bring tons of talent to Baton Rouge, but the biggest boom of the day happened before the Tigers ever stepped on the field.

LSU has landed commitments from three players on Rome High's (Ga.) defense.

Georgia commit Adam Anderson flipped his commitment from the Bulldogs to LSU. Jaquon Griffin also gave his commitment to head coach Ed Orgeron, as did Jamarcus Chatman - giving the Tigers three commitments from the same high school. It's the second time LSU has pulled off the feat in this class, with Orgeron and Co. also landing commitments from three defensive players on Evangel's (La.) defense for the 2018 class.

Chatman is ranked as the No. 11 strongside defensive end prospect in the 2018 class, and the Tigers had trailed Miami on the 247Sports Crystal Ball. Anderson, the No. 4 outside linebacker prospect in the 2018 class, had been committed to Georgia since last August. Griffin, a strongside defensive end prospect, had LSU as the lone predictions on his 247Sports Crystal Ball.

LSU offered all three prospects on Friday, and less than a day later, all three went public with their commitments.

Stay tuned to Geaux247 for more on this breaking news.

Not a huge affect on AU. I know we were after Adam Anderson but besides one visit not much was happening there. The other 2 did not have AU offers. Chatman and Anderson are tough blows to UGA. Smart having a rough 2018 cycle early compared to last year but they still got some big names like Zamir White, Jamaree Salyer, Brenton Cox and Trey Hill they can pull
