Some more info on 4* LB Quay Walker from KN. Says he visited with Walker today and he flat out told him Bama was his leader. Plans on visiting Alabama this weekend but race not over for AU

Something interesting to follow is 4* Bama RB commit Dameon Pierce. Says his commitment to Bama is "open" and plans on visiting Auburn. Horton has stayed on him despite commitment and Lindsey has talked with his high school coach. We tried to get him to visit for spring practice but he could never make the trip however he wants to visit this summer. Auburn and Florida are two teams still after him the hardest despite Bama commitment

KN had a recruiting insider up earlier today. Here's summary

- Tigers no longer the only leader for 4* ATH Nathaniel Watson. He visited Mississippi State for their spring game and has them tied with us now. State is recruiting him on the offensive side of the ball (as are lots of teams) while we want him on defense. Says feels like Mississippi State wants him and needs him more. Still a ways away from a decision

- 4* CB Jalyn Armour-Davis wants to commit sometime this summer. Top group right now is Auburn, Alabama & FSU with it really being an AU/FSU battle right now. He is close with Greg Brown and on his last visit which lasted 3 days got to experience life as a player and student at AU. He felt like he was a good fit. Also he's really close with his area recruiter Travis Williams. He's also close with FSU DC Charles Kelly

- Interestingly enough 3* DE Andres Fox says if NSD were today he would sign with Auburn. He's thought about committing a few times but his family wants him to be patient (frick they bama fans ). LSU and Bama are also contenders. He grew up a Tide fan. However he is closest with AU's staff specifically T-WILL. Says he feels like he fits in very well at Auburn

- Finally update on 3* DB Juanyeh Thomas. Lists a top 3 of Auburn, Georgia Tech and Florida but KN thinks it's more a Gators/Tigers battle. He's clicked with Greg Brown and talks a lot with area recruiter Kodi Burns. We want him at the CB spot and apparently are recruiting him the hardest. A reason for his low ranking is apparently according his coach he only got thrown at 4 times last season. Another positive for AU is he is buddies with former teammate Eli Stove

KN had a longer update on 3* DE Andres Fox. Says he has great relationships with Travis Williams and Rodney Garner who have been after him for awhile. It's those relationships and fact we were the first of the "big schools" to offer that has us probably in front right now over Alabama and LSU. He has thought about committing to us in the past. He could play buck or SDE but when he visited recently he focused on Marlon Davidson who apparently is a guy he is friends with as well. Wants to commit before his senior season and says despite growing up a bama fan could 100% see him self suiting up for AU

Finally 4* OT Tommy Brown and 2019 5* QB JT Daniels did not stop by AU like originally planned, only went to Bama. KN says it's because AU is not really recruiting Daniels. Brown is a Bama legacy anyway so chances were slim

KN put in a CB for 4* WR Jacob Copeland to UF yesterday. He says his recruitment is still wide open but he just feels like the Gators have been the consistent team with him. Apparently he's hearing that we are after other guys namely Matthew Hill, Justyn Ross, Seth Williams and possibly Shedrick Jackson harder than Copeland right now. Some schools have backed off of Copeland because they think he enjoys the recruiting process too much and his academics could be a concern. KN isn't sure if AU falls into either of those categories. Also KN points out all those other names are 6'2" or taller while Copeland is 6'0" so AU might be trying to bring in a class of much bigger wideouts this year

Personally I want one of Copeland/Williams/Ezzard/K. Jackson. If we get one of that group to go with Ross, Hill & Fuqua that would be a hell of a WR class

Also a recruiting insider went up last night

- Sounds like 4* RB Dameon Pierce is a legit target despite being committed to Alabama. KN puts it at 50/50 he sticks with the Tide. Apparently Horton loves Pierce and has not stopped recruiting him and it seems like it's paying off some. Auburn and UF are after him the hardest which KN thought was interesting considering they are the top 2 teams with Asa Martin as well. Pierce will visit this summer with his mom who is a really important part of his recruitment. Lindsey hasn't spoken a bunch with Pierce but has been in contact with his coach.

- 4* LB Quay Walker might be pulling the trigger for Bama this weekend, KN says he kind of froze up when they asked if a commitment was possible at their spring game this week. Apparently things have really slowed down between him and AU. KN was surprised because all the intel he has heard is Walker is near the top of our board but doesn't sound like we are recruiting him like he is. Walker is 6'4" 220 now so he might end up being more of a Buck target. Before this visit KN thought it was an AU/UGA battle but now thinks both of those team are "outside looking in"

- Clemson is a legit threat for 5* WR Justyn Ross. He was impressed with their facilities and liked how laid back everyone there was but the biggest thing is they could show him what they would do with him because they have recent results with top WR talent and throwing the ball around. Both Alabama and Auburn are telling him what they will do so that's something to watch. Also fact they have Trevor Lawrence commtted intrigues Ross as well. Still, KN thinks this will still end up being an AU/Bama battle. His mom unfortunately is a Bama fan but Ross says that won't really factor in to his decision. He is more comfortable with Gus Malzahn right now and admitted still gets nervous around Saban. So for now it's a 3 team race between AU/Bama/Clemson

State of Alabama recruiting insider: Day 4 on the road (SECCountry)
quote:

Thursday ended up taking us to three different cities all over the place, including a small step outside the state of Alabama.

The day started in Mobile, Ala., where we spoke with top defensive line target Andres Fox from Mobile Christian who has strong interest in Auburn, Alabama and LSU and is a top priority at all three schools. Mobile’s proximity to Pensacola allowed Alabama recruiting reporter Chris Kirschner and I to make it over to Escambia High to talk with top wide receiver target Jacob Copeland.

The final stop sent us back up to Birmingham, where we will spend Friday getting the last crop of top talent in the area. We swung by Jackson-Olin on Thursday night when we got back in town to chat with 4-star defensive tackle Coynis Miller.

Check our quick insider takes from those visits below. Make sure to come back throughout the rest of the week to see more in-depth updates from those conversations.

Programming note: Friday will be the last day on the road, which will include the rest of Birmingham’s top prospects.

4-star wide receiver Jacob Copeland, Escambia

Kirschner: Florida is recruiting Copeland the hardest out of the schools he’s considering, but it’s Alabama who’s gaining the most steam in his recruitment. He was in Tuscaloosa last week for a visit, and he’ll return to Alabama on Saturday for the Tide’s spring game. He believes that early playing time, which is the most important factor in his recruitment, is obtainable at Alabama, Auburn and Florida. Copeland originally had a top two of Florida and Auburn as of just two weeks ago. He threw that out after talking to the staffs at Alabama, Ole Miss and Tennessee, which are the schools that comprise his top 5, along with Florida and Auburn. Those staffs made it clear to him how badly they wanted him in their recruiting class even after he stated publicly that he was down to just the Gators and Tigers. He doesn’t have any official visits set just yet, but he stated how he would like to visit an unnamed California school and Michigan. He said that even if he visited those schools the all-SEC top 5 will be hard to crack. Copeland will make his commitment at the Under Armour All-America Game in January.

Wolk: Since Copeland’s most recent visit to Auburn, a few things have changed with his recruitment. His narrowed options of Auburn and Florida have added three more competitors: Alabama, Ole Miss and Tennessee. Alabama, in particular, revved up its recruiting efforts of Copeland since then. He will attend the Crimson Tide spring game on Saturday, which will be his second trip in as many weeks to Tuscaloosa. Copeland mentioned Alabama’s decision to move a few defensive backs to wide receiver, and he feels like that gives him an easier opportunity to play early, something that has Alabama much more in the mix than before. As for Auburn, Kodi Burns remains the coach he’s closest to and said Burns told him he’d be down in Pensacola next week to visit his high school. The plan remains for Copeland to decide at the Under Armour All-America Game.

4-star defensive tackle Coynis Miller, Jackson-Olin

Kirschner: It’s clear that Alabama is recruiting Miller the hardest out of the schools he’s considering. Led by offensive line coach Brent Key, the Crimson Tide have gotten across the message that he’s one of the team’s top defensive line targets. Some people may assume that because Alabama and Auburn want Miller on their respective team that he’s automatically going to choose one of those schools. That’s not really the case. Miller said he has high interest in leaving the state of Alabama because he’s been here his entire life. The schools he mentioned out-of-state that he’s interested in are Florida, Clemson and LSU, but I can’t see him going anywhere other than one of the two in-state schools.

Wolk: As a top in-state prospect, Miller has visited Alabama and Auburn more than any other schools, but that doesn’t mean the big defensive tackle is a lock to stay in the Yellowhammer State. Florida, LSU and Clemson are three out-of-state programs who have offered the Miller gives a legitimate chance of earning his commitment. Oregon and Tennessee are two others who, if they offered, would become major factors for his recruitment, especially the Ducks. Miller has stayed in the state of Alabama his whole life and said there’s a “real high chance” he leaves the state for college because he wants to explore something new. He’ll be back in Tuscaloosa this weekend for the A-Day game. There are two timeframes to watch with Miller. The first: right before the season, when Miller plans to narrow his options after he’s taken a few out-of-state visits. The second: right after his senior season, when he plans to announce his college choice. Miller hasn’t decided on all his official visits yet, but said the two in-state schools will definitely earn them.

3-star defensive end/outside linebacker, Mobile Christian

Kirschner: Fox is a man of very few words when it comes to his recruitment, but if you ask him about his teammates at Mobile Christian, the 6-foot-5, 230-pound prospect just lights up. I think this is a case of Fox being too humble and not wanting to talk about himself. When he did talk about his recruitment, Fox maintained that his top 3 of Alabama, Auburn and LSU remains in place. Just on the outside looking in are Georgia and Oregon. Auburn has an advantage in Fox’s recruitment because the Tigers were the first SEC team to offer him a scholarship. Once Auburn offered, other SEC schools got into the mix after that. He’s been to Auburn more than any other school and is closest with that coaching staff. Though he maintains that no school has an edge over the next, with what we learned from him and his coach, the Tigers seem like the team to beat here.

Wolk: As Kirschner pointed out, Fox is as humble as the come. When it comes to his own recruitment or play, he’s relatively timid in his responses. When talking about his Mobile Christian teammates, Fox perks up to rave about their impressive skill sets, which he hopes will help the squad make another state championship run. The two coaches who stand out to Fox most are both from Auburn — Rodney Garner and Travis Williams. Of all the schools recruiting him, LSU, Auburn and Alabama still standout, but it’s Auburn who has made its plan for Fox most clear. Fox grew up an Alabama fan, and his parents are both Alabama fans, but that will have zero impact whatsoever on his recruitment. Auburn wants Fox as its Buck defensive lineman in the class, and he feels like Kevin Steele’s clear-cut explanation for how he’ll fit at Auburn has given the Tigers a slight advantage over the others right now. It should be noted: after I left Mobile Christian, I put in a Crystal Ball prediction for Fox to Auburn.

All these Bama fan parents are annoying

Auburn remains a favorite for LB (Rivals)
quote:

Crisp County's (Ga.) Quay Walker will play in the SEC, or at least his top-five list indicates he will.

Walker, one of the top outside linebackers in the 2018 class, released a list of his top schools Wednesday on Twitter that included Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, LSU and Florida.

Auburn has been recruiting Walker since his sophomore season and has been a mainstay in the linebacker's list of leaders. Walker has visited Auburn many times, the most recent being a junior day in March, and has built strong relationships with the coaches.

Walker is also a close friend and former teammate of Auburn defensive end signee Markaviest "Big Cat" Bryant. The two visited Auburn together throughout Bryant's recruitment.

The friendship could work in Auburn's favor. Bryant will report to Auburn in May.

“It kind of plays a big role where (Bryant) went," Walker said in March. "Y’all know I want to play with him.”

Walker isn't in a rush to make the decision. He plans to take more visits and announce his commitment after the season.

Tony Amerson is a 2019 RB in Alabama that you need to know (Rivals)
quote:

Tony Amerson is a strong running back. He is a rising junior out of Montgomery (Ala.) St. James with offers from Illinois, Kentucky, Memphis and Vanderbilt.

The 5-foot-11, 212 pound playmaker ran for a shade under 1,100 yards and scored eight touchdowns in 2016. He has the right mentality with the early success he has had and the attention he is getting as a recruit.

"It is all a blessing right now to have offers, but I just remember every day to get up and work harder than I did the day before," said Amerson. "I always want to outwork myself because when I am sleeping, someone else is working, so I am always grinding and working to get better."

Out of the schools that have offered, Vanderbilt is the one Amerson knows the most about. He took a trip to Nashville (Tenn.) in 2016 and he has interest in the Commodores.

"I went up to camp at Vanderbilt last summer and I really like it up there. I like how it is a program on the rise and how they can get better. If I went there, I could be part of them building up their program and I like that.

"I have talked to coach [Chris] Marve (linebackers) and he is a great guy. I like the coaches, the campus and of course it is a great academic school."

With Kentucky, the knowledge is limited right now for Amerson. He has watched the Wildcats on T.V. and he knows Mark Stoops has the program going in the right direction.

"I have not been up there yet, but I know it's football program at Kentucky is on the rise right now," said Amerson. "They have great basketball tradition, but their football team is getting better too.

"I saw an interview with Alabama defensive lineman Jonathan Allen, and he said that Kentucky's linemen were the smartest he went against. That caught my attention too."

The school that had one of the top running backs in Alabama on campus recently was Auburn. The Tigers have not offered yet, but Amerson is on their radar, he has visited twice already and what he saw there on the Plains surprised him.

"I was at the Auburn spring game and I was there when they played LSU last year, so I have been there a few times now. Auburn is actually better than I thought it was going to be. I thought it would be plain with it being right up the road for me, but the campus is great, the life around it is nice and the people there are great."

Many coaches are expected to be on the St. James campus in the coming weeks to check on Amerson. Illinois just offered Wednesday and there will likely be many more to come in before he starts his junior season.

He doesn't have his eye on the offers, he just wants to become a better player this spring.

"I want to ball out in front of as many coaches as I can this spring," said Amerson. "I am going to work hard and see what happens. I am not really worried about who offers me next or anything. I just want to go out there and work hard to get better."

Schools like Florida, Georgia, Notre Dame and South Carolina along with Auburn are showing interest in Amerson.

Kolbi Fuqua opens up about his Auburn commitment (Rivals)
quote:

On A-Day, April 8, at Auburn, Cordova (Ala.) wide receiver Kolbi Fuqua quietly committed to the Tigers. When leaving the facilities, the 6-foot-2, 210 pound star athlete announced that he had just committed to Gus Malzahn.

Fuqua does not do a lot of media, he is not into the attention and he has not said too mush about his recruitment or his commitment to Auburn. He recently took the time to sit down with Rivals to detail his decision. You can find out when he knew he would be an Auburn Tiger, what position he prefers and much more in this video interview.

Raiding the state: Georgia (Rivals)
quote:

Out-of-state recruiting is becoming more important in today’s world of college football and we are seeing more schools march deep into enemy territory and pull top prospects away with more regularity. This week we take a look at five of the biggest talent-producing states in recruiting and what schools have done the best job raiding them since 2012. Here is a look at Georgia.

quote:

1. Auburn Tigers

Auburn has been the most successful out-of-state recruiter in Georgia since 2012 with 20 prospects ranked as four-stars or higher. This is even more impressive considering the Tigers did not add any four or five-stars from the state in 2017. However, they made up for this between 2014-2016 when they pulled in 15, including Derrick Brown, DaVonte Lambert, Dontavius Russell and Nicholas Ruffin, while several others have transferred out of the program, including Kalvaraz Bessent and Stanton Truitt. After not adding a four- or five-star 2017 commitment from Georgia, the Tigers have already made an impact in the state in 2018 with a big commitment from four-star offensive lineman Jalil Irvin.

Farrell’s take: Auburn has always done a good job recruiting the state of Georgia and I expect that to continue. It has established excellent relationships at numerous schools and offer a great opportunity for players who want to get away from home but not too far away. I expect Auburn to remain at or near the top of this list for the foreseeable future.

Rivals100 LB Tuliaupupu on visits to Auburn, Bama and Ohio State (Rivals)
quote:

At the Los Angeles stop of the Rivals Three Stripe Camps presented by Adidas, Solomon Tuliuapupu announced that he would make spring break visits to Alabama, Auburn, and Ohio State.

Just before Easter weekend, he crossed that trip to Columbus off the list.

“Coach (Bill) Davis is a great coach,” he said of the Buckeyes linebackers coach. “He has a lot of experience in the league, and of course that’s one of my dreams. But they also have a good education to fall back on in case football doesn’t work.”

The Rivals100 linebacker said that a trip to the southeast would be his first, but he already has an idea about the culture in that region.

“I know it’s hard football out there and that’s what I like,” he said. “I like hard work and (visiting) is going to be a great experience.”

ON HIS WORDS

On Alabama

“We’re still talking, I would say the interest level there has been the same,” he said. “I talk most with Coach (Tosh) Lupoi, but we try and keep it professional, you know. We’ve talked about scheme, what I need to work on, things like that.”

On Alabama’s main selling point to him

“It’s just been being able to compete for a championship,” he said. “Being able to compete with the best and coming up, there is going to be competition to get to the next level, and that’s what you gotta do - face competition.

On Auburn

“The linebackers coach, T-Will [Travis Williams], and I actually have a good relationship,” he said. “He’s pretty big-time, he played in the league, he knows what’s going on - he’s a young guy. I think I can get a lot from working with him because of his experience.”

RIVALS REACTION

Tuliuapupu has 30 offers and claims not to have any favorites at the moment.

“Though this process I don’t really have any top schools yet,” he said. ”I’m just mostly focused on this season. I’m going to continue thinking about it, praying, talking with my family, and get as many visits in as I can and get the whole experience.”

Visits like the ones he’s planned over spring break are big opportunities for those programs to make an impression on Tuliuapupu. At the Rivals camp, many of his peers thought he was more likely to stay local, but all of those programs he's mentioned visiting could make a claim to being a great home for a top linebacker.

Cam Newton a tough, but fair coach, to key Auburn target (247)
quote:

You might think Quindarious Monday's 7-on-7 coach — a guy named Cam Newton — would be pushing the 4-star safety from Atlanta (Ga.) Carver to Auburn, Newton’s alma mater.

But you’d be wrong.

“Cam is not really like that,” Monday said. “He’s going to tell you it’s your decision. He’s telling you if you keep working and keep grinding you can be the best at what you do. I respect that because it’s not his job to recruit for Auburn. He’s just getting players better so when they go to college they won’t have to worry.”

On the field, Newton is a tough, vocal coach, according to Monday.

*** Get free breaking news in the Auburn Undercover newsletter ***

“I love playing for him,” Monday said. “He’s hard because he wants to see us succeed and wants us to be great.”

Monday, the No. 12 athlete in the industry generated 247Sports Composite, is a top Auburn target. And right now, the Tigers are his No. 1 school.

“I love the coaches at Auburn,” Monday said. “They show me the most love. I talk to the coaches almost every day and they show me that they need me. They’re not just saying that — they really mean it. I fit in because they just lost a good safety with Rudy Ford. I know they gain Marlon Character. He went to Grady (High in Atlanta). I know I can fit in with them and compete for a spot. I won’t have to wait and redshirt.”

As for his relationship with new secondary coach Greg Brown.

“I love his background,” Monday said.
