Alabama offer a special one for Austin running back Asa Martin (AL.com)
quote:

Asa Martin is one of the top players in the state, but had gone more than a year without hearing from Alabama.

Turns out, the new offensive coordinator likes the Austin standout much more than the previous one.

Alabama offered the 6-foot, 195-pound Martin on Saturday when he took a trip to the A-Day game. He dedicated the offer to his late grandmother, a big Alabama fan, when he announced it.

New offensive coordinator Brian Daboll has been in contact with Martin on a regular basis over the last couple of months. Prior to that, Martin had not heard from Alabama since the end of his sophomore year.

"He's a cool guy," Martin said about Daboll. "He's real serious about football. He knows a lot about the game, so I like him."

Martin was a key member of the Austin backfield as a sophomore, leading the Black Bears to a 6A semifinal berth. He played at the IMG Academy last fall, but transferred back to Austin in November. Martin is a four-star recruit ranked as the No. 5 in-state prospect.

But Alabama may like Martin on defense. He said he wasn't sure which position, but Martin plays safety for Austin.

"It really doesn't matter to me," Martin said of his future position. "I know that safeties play a little longer than running backs, so that may come into the decision. I'll come up with all that."

Florida remains Martin's No. 1 school and Auburn is No. 2. Both are recruiting him as a running back. Martin said his talk with Alabama head coach Nick Saban was "a pretty good talk about a lot of stuff."

"It was surprising," Martin said. "Alabama's the best of the best in college football and getting an offer from that, they're one of the better teams every year. It was a pretty good feeling.

"They're getting the ball to the backs in the passing game a little more, which I like. They're changing it up and not just going downhill every play, so I like that."

Martin said that Alabama is "definitely one of my top schools now, being an in-state and high-caliber team."

Martin went to Auburn for its A-Day game. The Tigers' coaching staff offered Martin in February.

"The quarterback play is coming up from last year (stood out), so that was one of the things I was impressed with," Martin said. "I think they can use me and I can go in and make an early impact as well in the backfield and catch the ball out of the backfield as well."

Florida is Martin's current leader.

"My relationship with (assistant) Coach (JaJuan) Seider," Martin said. "I've been down there. I really liked it and really like the campus. I feel like I can go in and make an impact early. They're a top-level program and they've been in the SEC championship game the last couple of years."

Martin said he plans to visit all of his top schools again before making a decision, which could come before his senior season.

He mentioned Texas as one school he's trying to get to, and Texas A&M if the Aggies show more interest.

Martin was third on IMG Academy's team last fall in rushing, earning 372 yards and four touchdowns on the ground per MaxPreps. He caught 17 passes for 235 yards.

As a sophomore at Austin, Martin ran for 1,374 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also started at safety and was a special teams ace with five blocked kicks.

Ole Miss first to offer James Clemens 2019 QB/S and DT (AL.com)
quote:

James Clemens produced three 2017 SEC signees, and one league member is getting a head start on a newwave of Jets talent.

Ole Miss offered 2019 quarterback/safety Jamil Muhammad and 2019 defensive tackle Daevion Davis today.

The Rebels offered Muhammad (6-foot-2, 208 pounds) as a safety, James Clemens coach Wade Waldrop said. Muhammad took over as the starting quarterback last season after the Jets opened 0-2. He went 8-2 and helped James Clemens advance to the second round of the Class 7A playoffs. Muhammad completed 48-of-114 passes for 503 yards, four touchdowns and seven interceptions. He has a strong arm and showed ability to do damage with his feet when leaving the pocket.

Davis (6-2, 300) will be counted on to anchor a defensive front that is losing LaBryan Ray (Alabama), Michael Sharpley (Kennesaw State) and Jeremy Garth.

James Clemens' other 2017 SEC signees were defensive back Kyriq McDonald (Alabama) and linebacker Monty Rice (Georgia).

New Missouri QB commit James Foster wants several Montgomery standouts to join him (AL.com)
quote:

Alabama was Sidney Lanier quarterback James Foster's dream offer, but the 6-foot-3, 210-pound Foster knew his best future opportunity was at Missouri.

Foster, a three-star recruit in the 247Sports composite, announced his commitment to the Tigers last Wednesday. He told head coach Barry Odom and offensive coordinator Josh Heupel last Tuesday and said the response "felt like every coach was jumping up on chairs."

Foster was offered by Missouri as a sophomore and has built a bond with Heupel ever since. He rewarded the Tigers' efforts with his pledge, and he's the first Missouri commitment for the class of 2018.

"I didn't know too much (about Missouri when they first offered), but I had watched them play," Foster said. "It never crossed my mind that this was where I'd be committing to."

Foster made his first trip to Missouri in March.

"It's a family atmosphere," Foster said. "Family is supposed to be important to you off the field, too. It's bigger than just being on the field. That's really why I liked it a lot. A lot of people are there for you off the field."

The quarterback situation is a good one for Foster at Missouri as rising junior Drew Lock will have either declared for the NFL Draft or have just one more year when Foster arrives.

"I like their offense a lot," Foster said. "They chunk it around a lot, and that's something I like to do. That's why I feel like it could be a great fit for me."

Foster knows Jamal Brooks, a Missouri signee from Bessemer City in the 2017 class. Missouri is making Montgomery an area of priority, and he'll be after several teammates and friends to join him.

Foster mentioned the Park Crossing duo of offensive lineman Tank Jenkins and quarterback/athlete Cam Taylor, Lee-Montgomery defensive back Jakorey Hawkins and Lanier teammates La'Dedric Jackson, a linebacker and defensive end Albert Thomas.

Foster said he didn't know if Alabama would still evaluate him or not, but he is expecting Florida State to see him throw this week. FSU has not yet offered. Other offers included Georgia, Illinois, Tennessee, UNC and South Carolina.

It would be hard to see Foster change his commitment again. He was once committed to North Carolina, but backed off seeing that he did that too early in his high school career.

"I'm solid," Foster said. "I was relieved. I feel like I made the right decision."

Why are you trying to hide the truth about a rape?

And have you ever heard of summarizing? Nobody wants to read all those words. I never thought I'd say this, but I miss Ellitor

4* DE Brenton Cox

Recruiting wrap: Cox is down to Georgia and Ohio State with a commitment coming as early as this week.

Performance: Cox entered the camp with the goal of receiving an invite to the 5-Star Challenge, and he achieved that. He was not only quick off the ball, but strong, and he won with moves to the inside and speed to the outside. He is an imposing figure at defensive end and it is scary to think how good he can be down the road.

3* LB Jacorey Jones

Recruiting wrap: Johns lists offers from Wake Forest, Toledo, Southern Miss and others.

Performance: Johns has incredible length and uses it relatively well. He still needs to add size, which has likely held him back when it comes to stacking offers, but he projects as a versatile linebacker. He was impressive in early drills and looked up to the task when it came time to cover running backs in space.

3* CB Jaycee Horn

Recruiting wrap: Alabama is his top school with Ohio State, South Carolina and Tennessee among others hanging around. A decision could come at any time.

Performance: Horn was strong all day in the rain out on the perimeter in coverage. Horn has the frame to make you think free safety possibly down the road, but then you see him back pedal and turn and run with wideouts, and you see a big cornerback. He stayed in the hip pocket of the wideout almost all day.

3* CB Christopher Smith

Recruiting wrap: Smith recently named a top six of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State and South Carolina. He plans to commit to one of those before his senior year.

Performance: Smith rotated groups, and he was successful on each side of the field Sunday. Some may question his size and others may wonder just how fast he is, but Smith is long, he is quick and he is an instinctive defender. He played the ball well and showed he can stay with top wideouts.

3* LB Azeez Ojulari

Recruiting wrap: Ojulari has offers from Alabama, Auburn and many others

Performance: Speed, speed and more speed — that is what Ojulari is all about. He really dipped down and turned that corner to get to the quarterback dummy in a hurry Sunday. It was hard for any offensive linemen to get their hands on him with his quickness. He is a good athlete who could project as a stand-up linebacker or weakside end.

3* LB Jayden McDonald

Recruiting wrap: Colorado State recently offered. Arkansas State, Rutgers and UNLV have offered as well.

Performance: McDonald created a little buzz with his performance in the cat and mouse. He played that well, stopping some of the better running backs before they crossed the line. Then, when we got to the one-on-ones, he shined as well. He moved well in coverage and did overplay the backs when they ran routes and made cuts. He had a strong day.

3* CB Donte Burton

Recruiting wrap: Burton recently decommitted from North Carolina, and Virginia Tech may now be the favorite.

Performance: Burton was easy to spot wearing the camouflage sweatpants in the rain and that was good, because he had a good day in coverage. He is a very feisty cornerback who played with a lot of confidence. He is not the biggest in stature, but he played bigger and he was able to knock some passes down.

3* ATH Cameron Taylor

Recruiting wrap: Missouri offered over the weekend and the Tigers immediately moved up his list. Georgia Southern recently offered as well. His recruitment should pick up this spring.

Performance: For an athlete who could play running back or safety on the next level, Taylor was strong in coverage Sunday. Not many receivers were able to create great separation on him, so the quarterbacks had a hard time completing passes. He mixed it up physically and played above expectations in coverage.

NR OT Tre'Shaun Hodge

Recruiting wrap: Hodge is awaiting his first offer

Performance: Hodge started the day playing guard before switching to defense midway through one one-on-ones. He actually looked rather comfortable on offense, but his future could very well be at defensive tackle. Hodge knows how to use his wide build and was one of the more powerful linemen at the camp. If he takes off some bad weight, his stock will rise this spring.

3* DT Nazir Sy

Recruiting wrap: Cy holds offers from Memphis, Troy, Tulane and others.

Performance: Sy is slippery for his size and is surprisingly light on his feet. He possesses decent power and will get even more effective when he replaces the little bit of bad weight he boasts with muscle mass. Sy made his mark during one-on-one work and was one of the afternoon’s most pleasant surprises.

3* ATH Richard Jibunor

Recruiting wrap: Jibunor’s offer list is long and distinguished. Notre Dame recently offered. He also holds offers from Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee and others.

Performance: Jibunor has a nice build. And while coverage down field against small running backs probably isn’t his strong suit, he held his own during one-on-one work. Jibunor stood out in drills and showed an ability to move laterally with ease.

Dude has played DE, LB & now DB at 3 different camps

3* DE Kingsley Enagbare

Recruiting Wrap: Georgia and Auburn are just a couple of the several schools to offer Enagbare in the last few months.

Performance: Enagbare is listed in the Rivals.com database as a defensive end, but he did a surprising amount of damage while working at defensive tackle. He showed good power and his time on the edge only helped with his pass rushing skills when he moved inside. He looks like an ideal fit for a 4-3 defense at the next level, and his versatility will only help his stock going forward.
