Doesn't Brewskis have smoking?

I'm glad for bars that allow it so people have the option, but a smoking bar is pretty much automatically a no go. I'm pretty tight with the Kingfish people, but I rarely go there due to the amount of smoke inside, though I'll go and hang outside in nice weather.

If you think Bentonville and Fayetteville traffic is bad, you should see Springfield, MO traffic

It's a gridlocked shite hole where the entire town developed far away from 44 and 65.

Getting to anything is a huge pain in the arse there. Can't stand it.

The beers i like don't have to be cold

It is a very American thing to do. It's so pervasive in our culture that most people do it out of instinct. They buy a sweet 6 pack of craft or European beer and come home and throw it in the beer fridge. Where it would be better if they put it in their pantry or basement.

You guys should give some of your favorite craft beers a try at a 50-60 degree temp sometime.

Or travel Europe a little more. Those dudes know beer.

You're crazy. The geniuses at Miller Lite specially designed their bottles with the "taste vortex" that gives me all the full flavored goodness I need. You trying to tell me that a bunch of Frogs, krauts, and frog/kraut hybrids (belgians) know more about beer than the good people at MillerCoors?

In other news, it really is amazing what happens to a quality beer, especially saisons and ipas, when they warm up a bit.

Absolutely. In fact, one of the ways to hide bad beer and tamper it's terrible taste is to make it as cold as possible. That way it inactivates most of the ingredients. It's one of the tricks of Coors, Miller, and Budweiser.

As good beer reaches that 50-60 degree range it's full flavor and potential come out.

I'll definitely trust a Belgian or German when it comes to beer. I'll let the French stick to wines, champagnes, and liquors.

As far as entrepreneurship locally, Acumen has done very well for itself. APEI was recently bought out by Cree from Raleigh, NC, and all indications are that they will remain in Fayetteville and expand their workforce and production. Picasolar and another solar firm are doing good things in Fayetteville as well. There is a nice core of silicon-carbide research and product development emerging from the tech park on the south side.

The state needs to recognize that Fayetteville is producing some world-class patents right now and invest heavily in the engineering program at UA.

The IMBA just named NWA a "regional ride center", the first such designation. That comes on the heels of Bentonville being named a Silver medal mountain biking center and Fayetteville being named bronze just last year. Look up the other cities on lists like that. Places in Colorado and Park City, UT, etc. The cycling culture here is as good as anywhere in the entire nation. Combined with the craft brew scene, people are finally recognizing Fayetteville and NWA are emerging as a little southern "slice of the mountain west" in a lot of ways.

DataRank, a Fayetteville start-up, was just acquired by a Seattle firm. They say they will stay in Fayetteville, just like APEI did with their WolfSpeed deal.

Folks are starting to take notice of the start-up scene here, for sure. Let's hope these companies will stay and grow.

DataRank acquired by Seattle company.

Fayetteville start-up Qbox raised $2.4 million in a preliminary venture capital push. Made the news. Fayetteville is really turning into a start-up haven. It is hard to keep up these days.

Also, the IMBA announced Bentonville as the site of their 2016 World Summit. That's awesome!

Bentonville IMBA World Summit.

Home sales are up nearly 14% over last year, for the first half of the year. Apartments are pretty danged full all over.

This boom is about to crash, especially with Wal-mart stock tanking so bad this year with no end in sight. The movement away from big box and corrupt corporations like Walmart. Trend isn't ending this decade.

The good news is, all of the Yankees will be leaving and the NWA folks may be once again looked at like real Arkansans. Also, I'm about to buy some more WMT shares the next day or two.

Wal-mart stock tanking

Because

quote:

Wal-Mart expects earnings per share to decline between 6 and 12 percent in fiscal year 2017. The warning comes as operating income that year is expected to be impacted by approximately $1.5 billion "from the second phase of our previously announced investments in wages and training as well as our commitment to further developing a seamless customer experience."

The company said investments in e-commerce and digital initiatives are expected to total approximately $1.1 billion in fiscal year 2017.

This means they are hiring e-commerce people. People who will work in NWA

An e-commerce initiative is bad news for short-term investors (ie hedge funds and institutional investors who are chasing returns), but generally good news for the company and long-term investors who believe the initiative will pay off. Actually, that's the definition of "investment"

I've had a mixed bag in England. The big names they seem to have everywhere (Guinness, Peroni, Stella, Kronenberg, Strongbow) are all chilled, but the craft/local stuff is all warm. Just had a warm cider.. not the best, but took on a completely different flavor profile. Pretty cool (pun intended), but I like my beers ice cold for now.

Tech Firm Metova to open office in Fayetteville.

Cool.

We are getting there. The past 5-6 years in start-up and tech growth in Fayetteville were just the beginning. There is a steady stream of jobs for people in tech here now.

If Walmart brings bigger pieces of its dot.com side to NWA, look out.

Dumb move. NWA is only getting stronger by the day.

Walmart is making the shift toward online shopping and groceries. They have the infrastructure and logistics advantage to continue to grow in those sectors for another 50 years.
