I live on the northern edge of Farmington and that is almost exactly what the sunset looked like from my house last night.

The night that was posted, the sunset was spectacular in NWA as well to the point that my eight year old son, while eating dinner, said "Holy cow! Look at that sunset" and we all went outside and checked it out. I looked over social media to see if anyone had taken a decent picture to post it up here in response to the Stilllwater pic, but I couldn't find anything.

Whole horizon sky was orange and pink.

NWA gets great sunsets, similar to Oklahoma, due to our proximity to the dusty plains a few hours west of us.

The point was that was the sunset after the tragedy at the parade Saturday.

Oh. I thought the point was that NWA doesn't get good sunsets either.

Well there's about 6-8 good ones a year.

Kind of like the football team about 6-8 good plays a game.

New "Rail Yard" mountain bike park in downtown Rogers:

One of the Walton kids said their goal is to make Bentonville and the surrounding area "like a ski-town, but for mountain biking". :itshappeninggif: See video link below

Jump is the soundtrack, this video is kinda lame, but also kinda good.

The mountain bike park ties into Lake Atalanta park, which is undergoing $17 million in improvements:

The city of Rogers started renovating Lake Atalanta in July and this weekend, the first component of the park updates will open to the public.

The city is renovating the park's central pavilion, building a trail around the lake and adding a new bike park, which will open this Saturday. Also new to the lake is 10 miles of off-road biking and hiking trails and the city is finishing work on several observation points through the park.

Here's a video of Steuart and Tom talking about mountain biking right before the Slaughter Pen Jam.

Thunder Chicken looks like it will be awesome when it is done. Kinda shocking that Fayetteville appears to be dead-last in NWA when it comes to dedicated, technical off-road mountain bike trails. Mt. Kessler is perfect for something like that. I hope they incorporate some purpose-built trails there.

Sidenote, I'm hiking Kessler in the AM before football starts.

Here's a video about the Slaughter Pen Jam from this year. IMBA folks are going to fall in love with NWA when they are here next fall for the World Summit.

One of my buddies is always railing on Fayetteville for not dedicating money specifically to mountain biking and offroad trails. Almost everything in Fayetteville is club maintained, not city maintained. Kessler has some good trails for riding, but it's not dedicated specifically for that. One problem, imo, is that other cities are very eager to work with the Walton boys and the Walton boys are eager to work with them on these things. Fayetteville isn't quite as cozy with the family, despite the fact that the WFF still does sink significant money here (they enabled the Kessler purchase).

They are planning on a nice mountain bike park at Lake Fayetteville; but, once again, it's planned, funded, and executed by a club, not the city.

Fayetteville is spending its trail resources on connecting the entire city to the paved-trail system. It's the egalitarian mindset of "everybody should have a bike path within 1/4 mile of their house". That will make for a nice amenity when it is completed. WFF pitched in this year for an extension of the Clabber Creek trail in NW Fayetteville.

Kessler would be great for something like that. Hell, Walker Park would work for something like the Rail Yard. Lake Fayetteville gets so many walkers and joggers, it seems like it might be difficult to have high-speed mountain biking there safely...

I think if Fay spent any more money on trails they would be lambasted. There are plenty of road projects that need to be done that actually help the economy before recreational dirt paths beyond what they already have

I like Fayetteville's approach. The City does build a lot o paved trails throughout the city. If anything, I think they should step up their sidewalk addition program to connect neighborhoods and take advantage of that connectivity
