A lot a folks seem to think recruiting the south is a thing. I don't agree, recruiting is basicly two things; Identifying talent, and convincing talent to come play for you. If a coach can do these things geography shouldn't make much of a difference. Regionality would really only apply to connections with high school coaches.

A good enough coach will quickly establish those connections. Players want to play for coaches who give them the best chance to go pro. Or at least play for a coach who can teach them to be the very best they can possibly be. Having recruiting connections is certainly beneficial, but like razorbroncs was saying, if the coach is good enough the recruiting takes care of itself.

100% agree. And, as I mentioned in another thread, the idea of needing "recruiting connections" to get to someone is completely outdated today IMO. Now you can just directly message a kid on social media and instantaneously gauge his interest in your program from anywhere in the country.

No more trying to go through a kid's coaches or extended family in an attempt to get a word with the guy. A coach with no "southern recruiting ties" would do just fine here.

Found this in a recent article.

Who’s an upgrade over Bret Bielema? If you believe Iowa State coach Matt Campbell that ISU fans don’t have anything to worry about, he’s off the board. UCF coach Scott Frost makes more sense at his alma mater than at Arkansas. And then that leaves the Hogs with … who, exactly?

With a 27-31 overall record, a 10-26 SEC record, a history of blowing halftime and late-game leads, and zero wins when trailing at halftime, I think the better question would be who isn't an upgrade over Bret Bielema?

Good point. But it never hurts to have connections in the hotbed areas.
At this point I would be willing to take a chance on Campbell or Norvell rather than watch this pathetic debauchery continue to unfold on a weekly basis.
Give me a spread guy with an attacking defense and let's take our chances.

Ok, KIFFEN... is one of the tops for me.

After doing this thread and tallying the majority of it, I am watching what he is doing with his offense and it is incredible.

And I am following him on twitter, he knows how to use social media to recruit and for PR.

The dude would recruit here better than anyone we have had, and that O would be fun as heck.

Yes, I love several others I will discuss later. BUT CAN YOU IMAGINE!

It will never happen... DANG IT!

I wouldn't say 'never' because he's definitely piqued our interest before and is still being followed fairly closely, but if you were to make a list of 6-8 guys that UA could/would pursue he'd be on it towards the bottom - BUT he'd be on it.

I'm hearing Norvell come up A L O T between the fans and guys with some pull, I'd say he's the #1 on the attainable list at this stage. Don't sleep on Campbell either but they don't like the chances as much and I think that causes some hesitation, whereas they think Norvell could be had. Leach, Frost (they think he's UF bound though), Gus (bleggggh) and there's one "nobody is talking about" all mixed in there somewhere too. The good news is that we have options when/if the time comes.

Don’t you tease me with the possibility of landing Kiffen. That would be too good to be true.

Yep, I knew Norvell is talked about a lot.. and I am not sure why actually. He should be near the bottom of the list IMHO. Not enough experience, and would possibly be eaten alive in the SEC.

Kiffen was mentioned by one of my friends but he is down the list a bit as well.

I want Kiffen, Campbell, or Gundy....

Not in that order...

I would take those three in any order. My ideal list would be Gundy, Kiffen then Campbell but any of the three would be a steal.

Maybe he will have his own shite plant here in Fayetteville too. I can't believe people actually want that guy. Did you guys hear that he never even bothered to get himself a Tennessee driver's license when he coached there? I don't think he even knows what the word loyalty means. If I had a list of 50 people he would be at the bottom.

I have no end of trouble understanding the love some of you have for Kiffin. He made a complete arse of himself at Tennessee and crapped the bed at a blue blood. USC players were literally fighting in the locker room at the Sun Bowl by the end of his tenure.

And spare me the bullshite about how he’s “matured” or “he learned from Saban.” He’s lobbing potshots at Saban on Twitter and was fired the week the CFPCG.

Good OC, probably a decent G5 head coach, but he has already made a fool of himself many times at the P5/major CFB level.

I think part of it is, as a decision maker, you have to ask yourself "do I have to like my coach to like the players and team".

It would be interesting to see if he could get top 15 recruiting classes to come play at Arkansas.

Campbell coming here is a lateral move.

The program is better but the competition is tougher.

He is only making 2.1 mil in Iowa, though...
