Cody? The best thing about him was that he weighed a ton and was hard to move out the way.

Calm down, Nancy.

The problem with Texas' rush defense was the linebackers, not the DL. Go look at any Texas website and you'll see people talking about how Davis got the most out of his guys but poor scheming by Diaz led to a lot of LBs out of position.

It's not really their job in the system to get sacks. It has nothing to do with talent or ability of the dline coach. They're responsible for run stopping and the pass rush comes from different places by backers. Saban has addressed this before.

Reading through this thread, I'm reminded of how many idiots we have on this board.

Enlighten us, oh wise one, on how we should be excited about this hire. Or instead of presenting facts you could continue with your childish insults.

I think this crazy offseason has gotten everybody out of sorts....it's never been this bad on the board.

It doesn't take any enlightening to point out you're whining like a spoiled little brat about an assistant football coach hire. Not like we won a national title the last time he was here or anything. Get a life.

It's ridiculous. None of us really know anything about what's going on in that football building right now, but clearly there are a handful of people here who know what we need better than the head coach. Unbelievable. If we had a losing record, or if our d-line was constantly getting gashed the last time he was here, I would probably understand, but we won a national title, and saw studs like Cody and Dareus come through under Bo's tenure. I'll take it all day.

Questioning a hire with facts and expressing disappointment is not "whining like a spoiled brat". If you want a place that never questions anything, maybe Tide Fans will better suit you.

And where exactly are your "facts"? I'm waiting for the numbers.

Oh, wait, I know, we need a dominant pass rusher!!!

I've been here a lot longer than you. I remember when the SEC Rant was actually good. I don't post nearly as often as I used to, but I'm not going anywhere.

I don't care that people are disappointed with the hire; everyone has a right to feel whatever emotion they want. The part that's frustrating is that people are using an irrelevant stat to say the guy is garbage. Saying he can't get a pass rush and doesn't produce sacks from his d-lineman isn't pertinent because it's not something that he's trying to do. His job is to stop the run and his lines have been very good at that when he was here.

Where did I say dominant pass rusher? I gave UTx rushing defense ranking as reason for my disappointment in the hire. That, and he hasn't recruited anyone of note.

It's okay to criticize a hire. I can't stand some of the group think that happens with Bama fans. I, for one, appreciate diversity in opinions. Life would be boring if we all thought the same thing. But I guess expressing a dissenting opinion is whining IYO.

Why I provided UTx rushing defense stats.

I've read plenty of positivity about Nuss, but the reasons for being okay with him leaving are warranted.

Not that I remember. I don't really remember there being that much talk on it to be honest. I think most people were pretty indifferent.

amen. I was just wondering where the disdain for Bo was coming from, and so far, the only thing that I've gotten is "you cant be 'okay' with the hire because there were people that were glad when he left in 2010", and "we didnt have a dominant pass rush".

Neither are those are legit.

Yeah I'm not commenting about just you. I meant in general. The main complaint in this thread is the pass rushing.
But to comment on your comment about his tx rushing stats, I think his numbers while he was here were good, so I'm not worried about that.

Diversity in opinions is one thing. Making confident, yet ignorant statements is another. He coached at Bama under Saban before. So why are you using stats from Texas instead of what he did here at Bama? The rush defense numbers from 07-10 are about the same as the 11-13 teams. And, as several have pointed out, we did a lot more of that playing with a 3 man front.

Yeah, I wasn't specifically calling out chatta, either. I just read through the thread and went back to the OP to reply.

Some coaches get better as they coach while others don't. Some were wondering if he has made improvements since his time at Bama. Pointing out that he had some abysmal rushing defense records at UTx is, in essence, saying that maybe he hasn't improved. Let's face it, right now we don't have a Mount Cody on the dline. I was simply showing stats of him when he hasn't had the greatest talent to work with. At DE we have some studs. At nose, not so much.

Maybe I missed something here. But his 2 DEs this year Jeffcoat 13 sacks and Reed 10 sacks were in the backfield a lot. Combine that with 41 TFL and 35 QBH. Not to shabby.IMO
