If Hurts is sitting simply because he is a freshman when he has been the best option reported by literally everyone who has been to scrimmage and practice?
You do realize that the practice reports you are basing this on are from two 10 minute media viewing periods per practice, right? What about the other 90 minutes when Saban isn't running vanilla arse passing skels?

I wouldn't even be surprised if he transfers. In the back of his mind he may think even when Bateman goes Barnett will always be ahead of him.
If he has that type of attitude then good riddance. What is he going to do when Tua gets on campus next spring? He'll probably be the highest rated QB Saban has signed in his 10 years here.

The only reason why I'm melting so hard over this, because I would prefer a QB with great arm talent to take advantage of the WR corp we have and out of every QB, I personally believe Bateman has the worst arm talent. Nonetheless I hope he gets everything together as I still want the guy to succeed.
We won a national championship with Greg McElroy at QB throwing to arguably the best WR in the NFL (Julio). What would you rather have, a national title or a two WRs getting over a thousand yards receiving? If it's the latter you can go be a L5U fan.
Chill the frick out.

I just see the deep ball as a big part of Kiffin's offensive scheme. If you take the deep threat away, the defense gets to come up closer to the line and sit on short passes and runs. But I'm not a coach, I just play one on Saturdays

This is probably my biggest concern. Stretching the field is a huge part of our offensive identity, especially with the weapons we have. If Bateman physically can't do that then that is a major detriment.
We can run all the slants and crosses and misdirection we want, if nobody is scared of our QB throwing the ball 40-50 yards down field then they are going to suck up and make us play in a box.

This right here^^^^
The only thing we can truly assess is what people that actually saw the game or practices for sure was the order of the QBs in drills and so many people dismissed it but yet it appears they were in that order for a reason now.
I think so many got wrapped up in Hurts hype combined with the worry that Bateman can not lead this team to another NC that Hurts ability got elevated in the eye of the fan a lot higher then anyone on the staff.

If this true do you think they would allow Bateman to start if he could not run the scheme? Serious question for your opinion. It seems they must think he is capable.

I don't know - but I think there is a reason Barnett is getting every opportunity to win the job. I think his arm talent is one of those reasons.

If he had that kind of attitude? What attitude? When Coker transferred to Alabama did you as well think he had some kind of attitude?
He was the best player not just in media viewing periods but in scrimmage. Now you guys want to bend reality like literally every person with access to the team wasn't raving about the kid... even the relatives of the players were! Who could blame him for not wanting to waste time? It isn't like you have multiple chances; this is a once in a life opportunity.
Who wants to bet this may be even more confusing for the team than it is for the fans???

Last week it was reported that Saban met with some reporters after his normal presser and made the offhand remark about the Qbs order that Hurts would be the other coach and the teams choice to start. The order of the depth chart is on Saban as it should be.
By the middle of the 4th qt we should know a lot more than we do now.

I'm convinced it's those things Saban eluded to in his PC - getting the RB on the correct side of the formation, etc. Hurts will play, and maybe start, when he gets a firm grasp of that stuff.
Phil Savage said today that he's a little surprised b/c he thought it would be Bateman/Hurts in week one and two with one of them being "the guy" starting week 3 and beyond.

Yet, you have posters trying to discredit and say the kids was only performing during the media sessions.
The kid apparently wins the team and the coaches.... but but seniority. With QBs always seniority.
This will be an interesting year no doubt

Savage generally has a pretty good grasp on the internal discussion and how it translates to the field, so this is interesting.
I don't think Saban was playing any games (because, well, he's Nick Saban). I just think he/they decided that Hurts wasn't quite ready and that they needed to give Barnett the chance. I have no idea what their confidence level is in Barnett.

Calm down. The players have been there long enough to know why a freshman QB isn't starting. Our fans are idiots.

agree. Here is a his interaction on the subject:
Phil Savage thought Hurts would be on the "Or" part of depth chart for this game too

I think the truth is that what TS is eluding to is the only thing we know that is true is what was seen during the viewing periods that was reported and I believe we all agree that Saban will not show his hand there. That anyone else that reports outside of the open viewing sessions who know what they are saying is accurate or even if they are there.
I do think everyone believes Hurts has the talent but many on here also believed whether they agree or not that Saban was probably going with Bateman to start.

No, I can't. But Coach Saban, the guy who said in his press conference that the little things like what I mentioned are what #2 needs to work on, he can.
Posted on 8/29/16 at 2:59 pm to bamasgot13
People are confusing Hurts to be the starter. No one said that. We all said he would play in the game at some point.
