Only watched the 1st and the drive Jalen was in on in the 2nd half. Here's what I noticed:

No designed runs for Jalen
TE usage
Lots of Josh Jacobs

From these three things I assume that Saban is wanting to make sure that Jalen can lead us to winning with his passing. Giving him more targets and more easy passes will open up the field more and allow him progress better. This also does something else, it helps with recruiting elite TEs and WRs. Bama is getting killed on the trails about our lack of passing. This is why also got to see more of Tua early in the 2nd, but let's get back on track about the game. Jalen had a pretty solid performance overall, but was shaky in the 2nd up until the end of the quarter. More Jeudy, Smith and Ruggs helps the passing game go. All we need Jalen to be in order to win the title is Vince Young. Not great at passing, but efficient enough to win us the close games.

Two backs in the backfield versus one back base set. Saw it a few times. As far as Jalen goes, I have no confidence in him passing downfield if our running game gets stuffed. We saw the same movie last year and the sequel looks the same. I hope the running game holds up down the stretch.

By my count he was 5/7 on throws 15+ yards downfield in this game and has been solid in that area all season. 21 attempts for 198 yards in just over a half of play is a pretty good day for any QB especially against an actually decent pass defense (they were top 20 in pass defense by S&P+). I'm not really seeing where the issue is with Hurts.

Only at Alabama can a QB go 13/21 with 200 yards and a TD(should've been two TDs) and the fans feel worried about his passing. In two quarters no less.

The freshman threw a pick six in the redzone for Christs sake, and you guys still think he is the better option. Absolutely mind blowing.

Also, when exactly was our running game stuffed last season? Weird comment to make seeing as how it really hasn't happened once since Jalen has been our QB.

No, just not confident in Jalen throwing the ball deep down the field unless the WR has 3+ steps.

Feel generally good about him within about 25 yards, his mastery of the offense and his running abilities.

Quick question was he 5/7 throwing it actually over 15+yds or did most of it come with YAC? Just curious

I will preface this by saying I think Hurts is the starter and Tua I doubt will surpass him this season. My concern though is with Hurts and our WRs. It is obvious his first target is always going to be Ridley. Even at times it appears others are open but he is locked on CR even when covered. I am starting to notice when Hurts goes to other WRs it seems they did not complete the route or something was off. Like they figured he was not coming their way and gave up on the route and why it seems he just barely misses the WR on what appears to be a good throw.

But with Tua the offense seems to be in a better rhythm. The WRs finish their routes and he makes it looks easy out there. Seems to do a better job reading the D and finding the best route to hit.

I just worry that Hurts will not be able to bring us back if we are down against a high scoring O. Not saying Tua can but something is off with our rhythm and our o with Hurts at the realm.

I also think this spring there will be a battle at the QB position.

Ummm. That's not a Jalen issue...

This is also why I like when your freshman WRs are in. They are hungry.

How many "should've" TDs does Jalen have on the season now? Gotta be leading the country in that statistic.

Dude, Irv Smith fumbled while walking into the endzone. Do you not agree that that should've been a touchdown?

How on earth is WRs not finishing their routes Jalens fault?

Why? The only time that has happened, he brought us back. Why would you think differently?

Killed on the recruiting trail? We brought in the best corps of receivers in the country. Absolutely a three headed monster

While jalen may have a decent percent down field, how many of those passes were due to our receivers having to stop and almost break their neck to make a great catch? I remember at least two Big passes that could have been bigger if they had been hit in stride. This wasn’t like a qb sitting his wr down to avoid a hit, it was him just making a somewhat errant throw and our all world wrs making a great acrobatic catch.

You think Saban is putting receivers out there who aren't finishing their routes?

And you got 6 upvotes.

I’m staying out of this main issue but Saban won’t know that until he watches the film. And that’s a fact btw. I’ve watched foster quit on plays all freaking year. If he’s that selfish he can sit the fricking bench. Plenty of other people want to play and would die to be on that field to include Derek Kief.

Foster confuses me, he gives up on some plays because he knows its not going to him, then against Tennessee he ran almost 100 yards to barely miss stopping the pick 6.

And again, said it in another thread, it is Cam Sims instead that's losing snaps to Jerry Jeudy...
