Could kicking be such a motion? So basically he is good until it flares up again?

It very well could come back. Usually start a good stretching program as well as epidual steriod injections to heal it. once you have a pars defect you are more pron to reoccurence .

In a BOL article he said that he isn't kicking as much during practice or the summer but doing a lot of stretching. Said the issue happened in High School and flared up last year.

It's why I wasn't super critical about Griffith.

Disappointed, but understood he was essentially out there in pain every time he made a kick.

Really only option Bama had. Gunnar Raborn did some XPs, but his kicks are low, blockable ones.

For a guy kicking with a broken back, Griffith did just fine last season. If he stays healthy, he'll be more than adequate.

We have the best brokeback kicker in the world. I cringe every time he tries a kick.

Does anybody know what happened to the OL from Huntsville High School that we signed a few years ago. I thought everyone was high on him, but I don't see him ANYWHERE on the depth chart

Hill supposedly got mono last year, which led him into a serious battle with depression. Not sure if true, but heard it multiple places. Wish the best for him, depression is no joke.

Hey Bucc, I'm not sure I've seen your reaction yet.

How does it feel having Winston as your QB?

I keep telling my damn self its for the best

I wish WISH Lovie could've traded the 1st pick for Phillip Rivers...it was a rumor floating but not for very long until he got a new big fat contract, apparently Rivers called VJax and gauged TBs interest

He's shown to be the same Jekyll and Hyde in the preseason only bad issue I've noticed is tensing up immensely in the RZ to the point where he's running in TDs and not being patient and finding the open man.

Our 4th rounder (Bama native) Kwon Alexander has been phenomenal and will start at MLB, even beat out Bruce Carter we signed from the 'Boys, crazy to think he never really got a look at ILB in Baton Rouge.

I'm so stoked about this team (Bama) defensively, 1st time I've been this way since heading into 2011 If Morris/Coker can manage well and hand off 55 - 65 % of the time I got a feeling this will be a special team

I'll bet that none of you guys criticizing Griffin have ever had back issues.

Coming from someone that hurts simply getting out of the bed every morning, I admire him even trying to kick a football.

I wish his back wasn't hurt and he could realize his full potential and the injury didn't affect our football team. But, it is and it does. No reason to pile on a kid for playing through an injury though.

The ultimate sign of admiration is knowing a guy's name.

Just messing with you. I absolutely agree. Good for Griffith and, frankly, every player out there that is busting their arse and playing as well as their bodies and talents will let them. If they come up short trying their best, then that is really on the coaches and/or guys behind them for not being better.

With that said, I wish Alabama always had a capable option at backup kicker.

Any news on Pineiro? He is eligble and on the team right?

From BOL:

quote:

Alabama head coach Nick Saban recently sat down with Paul Finebaum for a one-on-one interview that will later air on ESPN’s Outside the Lines. A brief, three-minute preview of the interview was released Tuesday evening and features several interesting answers from Saban.

Finebaum first asked the Crimson Tide head coach about the disappointing losses his team has seen in the Sugar Bowl the past couple of years.

“We haven’t finished the season, the last two seasons, like we’d like,” Saban said. “People talk about, ‘You’ve won four national championships.’ Well, I feel like we’ve had good enough teams to win eight. So I feel like we failed four times. I feel like I failed four times.

This is going to rustle some jimmies on the rant, whooooooooo

Last I heard, and it was awhile ago, there was talk 'bout him not enrolling till January so he'd have 4 years of eligibility left...

Speaking of Griffith:

@_DCReeves: Heard in spring that @GenoEspn / ESPN was going to bring Adam Griffith back to Poland. Looks like feature will be on Gameday on Saturday.

@_DCReeves: Funny thing Adam said about going back, if he ever did - he thought he’d have to use Rosetta Stone to re-learn Polish.

So Saban is supposedly unhappy with fan expectations yet he makes a statement like this? Further evidence that the "He's unhappy" reports are probably complete BS.

I believe BOL reported over the Summer that he played a yr while on a soccer scholly at a CC or something of that nature and was waiting to enroll after this season so he will have 4 full years, which will be huge for a guy with his talent.

Saban and ST staff I'm assuming were fully ok with that and are gonna let Griffith tough it out 1 more year (in which he might be much healthier). I also understand that some kids are just better even with a myriad of injuries or just 1 massive "pain related" one that is more of the nagging variety (what Griffith's ailment seems to be at this point). JK Scott and Bama trainers working with him on stretching and muscle tension and release may give him some relief this year but the fact is that despite STs coaches and camps/clinics bringing in kids from all over and having multiple walk-ons at K, no one has been able to beat out even an injured Adam Griffith and some kids are just that talented, so I'm OK with giving him 1 more year and having EP for 4. The whole Bama staff sure is and that's no secret.

I personally don't really get the decision to not bring in another kicker for this season. If we know Griffith had an injury that affected his play last year and there's a decent chance it could return this year, we're just setting ourselves up for sub-par kicking again by not bringing in another kicker.

And I certainly hope that Griffith proves himself to be an excellent kicker this year but I have doubts based on the fact he was unable to beat out Foster for two years and looked bad on A-day in '14 before he was reportedly injured. Maybe I'm just being a Debbie Downer

If griffiths back flares up, just go for it on 4th everytime we are in field goal range, punt otherwise. We would probably score a ton of points and break some spirits.

i don't think he missed afield goal last season prior to the injury flaring up
