I've had this conversation before.

The 2001 Hurricanes would likely lose to any NC team going back to the 08 Gators.

I realize it's only a matter of 7+ years, but the advancements in both the game, and strength and conditioning have made teams much faster and more powerful than those teams of the early 2000s. Any team in the last 5 years or so would probably dominate them completely.

I don't buy that on a talent level. But from a coaching perspective? Yes. Larry Coker was a bad coach. He was arguably worse than Gene Chizik.

I don't disagree that say 2011 Bama or 2011 LSU could beat 01 Miami.

I don't know about it being complete domination like that simulator predicted though

I am by no means an expert so please be kind but it seemed to me last year teams were able to get to the edge on us fairly easily before db's closed. If agree do you think we will improve this year in that area?

Nobody really ran on us last year before auburn and ohio state, and ohio state really actually struggled to run on is minus 2 big runs, which was over half their yardage. 2 rushes were half, 40 rushes were the other half, for like 3 ypc

If memory serves Denzell Devall was injured and some younger players like Rashaan Evans, Christian Miller and Tim Williams were not quite ready for the prime time. Then we had two corners who were not healthy all season one of which (Jackson) who wasn't well suited to corner.

We will have to wait and see how this team reacts to the edge but I think the assets available are greater this season.

Auburn didn't really run effectively against us either. 174 yards at 3.7 ypc. Not great, especially for Gus-bus standards.

He made the right decision going pro, but it sounds like the kid would be happier playing for Bama one more year With his friends.

For a guy kicking with a broken back, Griffith did just fine last season.

If he stays healthy, he'll be more than adequate.

The strength of the interior is well documented, but I think the edges will be fine. Devall is a seasoned run defender who knows how to set the edge. Jon Allen and Ryan Anderson can as well. Lee may be a sideline-sideline backer at Sam. One thing too is at CB/Star we have some good size, so if they're willing run defenders (Cyrus is a bit smaller, but I recall being impressed by his willingness to come up against the run) that should help eliminate some of that work on the edge.

I've said it multiple times, but for this I'll reiterate. I'd personally be don't see any legitimate reason (other than if we overhyped them) for the front to allow any of the big time rushing attacks we play to have success against us. MAYBE Georgia with their stable of backs and seasoned OL, but where's the passing game? We should hopefully be able to stack the box.

I have a masters in sports science. Knowing the development of the human body and more specifically athletes is basically what I do. I'm telling you, today's athlete is bigger, faster and stronger than 10 years ago. Even high schoolers are more advanced than in 06. Add in how the game has evolved from a scheme standpoint and Miami would not know wtf to do against a lot of teams today. By the time they figured it out, they'd either be in too big of a hole, or they'd be too outmanned (depending on which NC team we're talking about). Maybe even a combo of both.

I realize that team had a tremendous amount of talent, and a lot of those guys went on to be very special in the pros. But they weren't all seasoned vets in 2001. Some of those heralded players were just soph and freshmen. They were not the All-Americans they ended up becoming yet, and they weren't at their top college potential.

Stress fracture. Apparently it was an old injury that somehow got aggravated before the Ole Miss game and worsened as the season went on.

Supposedly he's fine now, but only time will really tell.
