Jalen Hurts - Alabama vs Texas A&M, 2016

Being in the stadium, I got really pissed off when they abandoned the run (sort of) early in the 1st quarter in the red zone.

After watching the video, saw that it was a RPO on the 2nd play that Hurts could have hit OJ if he wanted. Aggies covered it well.

We gotta remember that the Aggies did have one of the better red zone defenses in the nation. Yeah Kiffin could have called better plays, but give A&M credit.

Also, Joshua Jacobs the ball in open space some more. Guy is shifty as hell for a freshman.

Makes me think about this: other than Cam Robinson, OJ, and Dieter, Alabama is going to return its QB, two of its TE's, all of its RB's, majority of its WR's (Ridley and Stewart being the two main ones of course), and most of the O-Line. Defense will definitely take a hit, the offense next year is going to be STAACKKEDD

Has this ever happened in any Alabama game in the past 50 years? One pass over 10 yards the whole game?

Hell I'm pretty sure it happened in the 1992 and 2009 national championship games. We won both of those, by the way.

Hurts is so so good at the read option game reads. He almost never misses one.

Also, upon further review, he missed some long throws but he made pretty good throws to Ridley (for PI) and Stewart down the field. Not perfect, but with our offense and 1 on 1s it doesn't have to be.

McElroy had like one big pass to Julio in the championship game, and that was it. 6/12 58 yards

We must have lost a couple games that year right?

But to be frank, the pass to Ridley that missed but got pass interference, and the pass to Stewart, that he had to turn back for, could easily been touchdowns if they they hit the receiver in stride.

So reviewing that video (thanks) there were 5 passes downfield. Missed Ridley twice and a PI on another, one interception, and Stewart reached back for a good reception. Maybe we'll do better in the LSU game.

But the overall point is, in our offense and with his run skillset, they don't have to be. They will more times than not be to elite recievers in 1 on 1 situations due to his run threat. If he makes those throws we are discussing, we get PI or a completion 50-75% of the time. That's acceptable when paired with our run game IMHO. Wish it was better, but it's a decent combination that can win.

We can and will most likely win a championship with a true freshman at quarterback. Amazing. I wish he was a better passer too but this kid is winning. All that matters.

I was talking about McElroy's performance in the national championship game, man. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt however because he apparently had broken ribs.

Did you read the post he was responding to and that he quoted from? It was a post about Hurt's passes downfield specifically.
