not proven high level coaches

Proven is more important than high level. If you've proven yourself at Wright State (where you are likely on even level talent wise with everyone you play), then you can win.

A coach who kills it in DII in football is still a good coach. Look at the Tressel transition at OSU. Seamless.

I get your point but think about this. Would you rather have someone who won at Wright State(or Alabama State) or from an SEC/ACC school. The choice is obvious. It's not that a guy can't come from a small school. It is just less likely he will be good. I want a proven winner at a high level than a proven winner at a low level. That's my opinion. If you don't agree on that then I guess we just won't agree.

"Forced" to go that route? I'd feel 1000X better hiring him than some these flash in the pan mid-major guys.
Totally different ball game at that level.

Dan McDonnell, Louisville
Brian O'Connor, Virginia
Mike Martin, Florida State
Tim Corbin, Vanderbilt
Kevin O'Sullivan, Florida
Butch Thompson, Auburn
Chad Holbrook, South Carolina

none had prior HC experience before hired at current positions.

Bohannon is at AU instead of UK b/c it's a better job with more money. He is a winner.

Don't forget Mitch Gaspard. He was an assistant who was promoted to head coach?

Butch Thomson has not done a thing yet.

According to Kendall Rogers, Alabama has serious interest but Pierce wants to hear from Texas first

Really hope Texas doesn't offer and he's just using Texas a leverage to gain a better deal. We need a guy like Pierce. Guy has connections to the talent in Louisiana.

No SEC experience. Here is his Wikipedia page

The page is missing the 2016 season. Tulane finished 41-21 and 1st in the AAC regular season

How exciting is Pierce as a hire if the rumors are true?

We could do better but we could do a whole lot worse too. I'm just concerned about how he will transition to the SEC.

I thought Texas was focused on the Gator coach.

I'm glad Battle is handling this different than he handled the basketball search.
