I'm kinda worried that we are going screw up this hire.

Battle? Screw up hiring a head coach?? Nah, no way! Just ask Gregg Marshall. The man's a pro!

Seems we ended up with a solid hire after missing on Marshall.

"I'd like to have someone with an Alabama connection."

We're fricked.

Well the only one on on the "hot board" list that meets that requirement is Alan Dunn, but he doesn't have head coaching experience.

I wonder which will take precedence, prior head coaching experience or the Alabama connection?

All things being equal, I'd like a guy with Bama ties, too. Who wouldn't? But all things aren't equal and there's not a name on the rumored list that has credentials as a head coach and Bama ties too. And with me, resume' wins over relations 10 times out of 10.

Whitting and Godwin are my realistic favorites as far as younger candidates with head coaching experience goes. Though assistants aren't a deathkill by any means. Several promenent head coaches were long time assistants until their current job, including Corbin and McDonnell.

Yes. He's only been there like 8 months, but was a long-time assistant at Kentucky under both John Cohen & Gary Henderson. 2015 National Asst of the year. Great recruiter. He's gonna get offered by a big-time program soon, I'd as soon be it Alabama.

A lot better than most of the awful names you're seeing thrown around.

I realize his background, but one has to wonder why he's at auburn. I'd rather go with an assistant off a consistent winner, if forced to go that route.

"Forced" to go that route? I'd feel 1000X better hiring him than some these flash in the pan mid-major guys.
Totally different ball game at that level.

Dan McDonnell, Louisville
Brian O'Connor, Virginia
Mike Martin, Florida State
Tim Corbin, Vanderbilt
Kevin O'Sullivan, Florida
Butch Thompson, Auburn
Chad Holbrook, South Carolina

none had prior HC experience before hired at current positions.

Bohannon is at AU instead of UK b/c it's a better job with more money. He is a winner.

I'm fine with an assistant in some cases. I'd just like to know more about him. Much rather take an assistant from a championship caliber program.

Mervyl Melendez and Alabama State taking it on the chin in their super regional game against FSU, 18-6 now.

Several other candidates and their teams playing tonight.

Melendez can't get the talent at ASU to beat a Florida State team. I'd like to see what he could do with a big club.

Dude can coach. He's had undefeated conference years at both of his head coaching stops. That ain't easy no matter what level you're coaching at.

Oh, I'm not going to judge him on one game. That's asinine. Just interesting to watch them in these games.
