My solution: the division leader with the 4th best record amongst divisions can be surpassed by a 3rd wild card team IF that wild card team has a better record.

That way the playoffs will field teams that are all pretty much deserving an none will get left out. It neither penalizes teams for being in an EXTREMELY tough division, that is the NFC West.

You realize how close this puts your 08 Cardinals out of the playoffs, had that OT win over Dallas gone a different way?
