You just need to do a insurance price shop all around.

While I intend to, that brings up another point. My homeowners insurance requires that I have a car policy as well. So if I switch my car insurance, that likely means I'm going to have to switch my homeowners as well. Is this a pain in the arse?

I doubt they will cancel your home. You may get a rate increase, but they won't cancel the home. Home insurance is almost as easy as car insurance (depending on where you live).

may just lose multi policy discount. Just ask, don't let them push you around. Just factor discounts in your shopping and shop your homeowner. It's a little PIA to move homeowners mid term cause of your escrow set up. May want to shop it like within 60 days of expiration.
