Mecom COULD have been a fine owner IF he had hired the right people to run the front office.
He needed a Bill Polian or Bill Parcells type to be President of the Saints and then hire a GM.
The Saints scouts and front office were lousy. Coach Tom Fears was a good coach, but, the front office operations were bad enough to ensure that Coach Fears never got enough talent to help the good players on the Saints back then.
I read all of this in Saints history books.

How old is mecom now? hell, benson is 82 and has owned the saints since he was 57. Mecom has to be that age or close. Especially since mecom was the original owner of the saints. yeah ole john mecom junior was the guy that took the saints to vero beach florida for spring practice if you recall so john could bring his yacht down there. wrong place for the saints to be. no business like sense at all in that. just look how well that worked out then. first off vero beach is dodgertown. i heard some stories about the players more worried about partying than practicing in those days. oh well,those days are over.
