Played saxophone for the last 35 years. Wow, I should be way better at it after all that time. 
Was "forced" to take band as a 5th grader and loved it, played in high school, played at LSU in various bands. Played in various groups around Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Gulf Coast, etc. Don't play as much anymore.
Took saxophone lessons in middle school and high school only.
Self taught tuba, but never got any good.
Playing an instrument opened doors for me and gave me opportunities I wouldn't have had otherwise. Made life long friends and connections that lead to my career (non-music).
