Now Team A is going to claim they were robbed because Team C had an extra week to rest, heal, prepare, etc….

the expansion rules state that only conference champions get a bye. Pac-12 is gone so there are only 4 major conferences. Only complaints can come from conference championship losers who make the playoff, but we know why they don't get a bye. Win your conference, get a bye it's that simple.

I don’t think the playoffs make a seperation between major conference or not. It’s the top six ranked conference champions get an auto bid. Period. That doesn’t mean they are still the top six seeds.

I promise you there will be years that a team sitting out of the conference champ game will slide in that #4 bid.

They will be likely a one loss team, but as an aside, keep in mind the new SEC rules mean it’s mathematically possible for the SEC to have 3 undefeated teams going into the CC, and one sitting at home.

Btw, this means just being ranked in the top 12 doesn’t mean you are in. For instance, this year Oklahoma would have been knocked off to include liberty.

Also doesn’t mean the top 4 with a bye requires you to be a conference champion (though they typically will be).

Only thing a conference champ gives you is an auto bid. It doesn’t say anything about seeding or bye
