Why after that hit? Did something happen to him that made him realize the mouthpiece would protect him from a concussion?

No but at first there was a concern of his jaw being broke. Obviously, they issue mouthpieces for a reason. You would typically think that after taking a hit with a considerable amount of force, an individual would consider ensuring they utilize the equipment given. It's issued for a reason.

But hey, some people still don't care and that's fine. I hope he reconsiders while playing in the NFL.
