Easy answer...they played the long game better and saw the writing on the wall for changing demographics in this country and targeted those growing demographics, all while gaining control over media, higher education, tech, the entertainment industry, etc. They are controlling the message and hitting the younger generations with their ideology from a young age.

Add that along with Trump being an extremely polarizing figure who most people outside of this messagae board can't stand, and you have our current situation.
