I think the easier way to say it is that you can make it into the top 10 but making it into the top two or three is very difficult without top flight recruiting. A couple of other things that drive this for Mizzou.
1. Pinkel really does have his own evaluation system and sticks with it. If a kid is a 4* with the services but Pinkel evaluated a 3* ahead of him, he's recruiting the 3*. This happens once or twice a year on average.
