Love me some fried green maters!

Looking like some good haul from that garden.

Health has cut me back the last couple of years but very happy with my yield this year...

Other than the rabbits wiping out my kale, bush beans and okra(1st time I've had rabbits eat my okra, usually deer) I've been happy...

Fin, it's really simple. Just multiply for amount. 2 cups water, 1 cup white vinegar and 1 tbsp of pickling/kosher salt.

In a pint I use a small bunch of fresh dill and 2 cloves of garlic. Put in what ever kinda peppers you like for heat if you wanna do hot.

Then just do water bath method to preserve. 3 weeks later, kick arse cukes...

If I can do it anyone can...

Deer ate our garden up in Savannah even with 2 dogs and a fairly high fence.

Rabbits are small and tasty tho. They eat your garden and you eat them.

(just an observation)

Air rifle where you can manually pump and go about 10 to 14 pumps and use the pointed lead shot. If you are older get a cheap scope to improve accuracy. Only go for head shots so if you hit you kill and if you miss they are not wounded and in pain. After that, well Bugs Bunny aside….

Disclaimer : I do not hunt or fish for sport. If I am killing it I am eating it so I want clean and quick kills. I grew up on a farm and was taught early on to limit any suffering to what I am hunting.

Disclaimer II : Stone crab are the exception as you just remove 1 claw and throw them back. Just don't remove any that are under size no matter how delicious they are with a side of melted amish butter.

As an old guy I generally do not buy modern american butter because the stuff I grew up with as a kid just tasted better.

Home churned butter is best, but if unavailable, some substitutes.

Amish butter
European butter
I like Irish and Spanish best as somebody said it has less / more (can't remember which) whey.
British cream (used like butter)
Italian mascarpone (technically a cheese but I use it like butter)
Canadian dairy (hence their butter) is just better than american because of standards (like chocolate in Canada, England, Switzerland, etc is way better than US) so if you can smuggle a few packs across the border is nice.

I love me some lobster and butter so why spend the $$$$ on the lobster and go cheap on the butter. It is like using tap water in your bourbon or using ice made with tap water in your bourbon.

Makes total sense. Thanks for the butter education.

Question for Dallas:
It's hard to tell from your garden pics but how many tomato plants do you have in total, 8 or so?
Also how many cuke plants?

Just trying to get an idea, looking to start a garden next year, thanks.

I have 18 tomato plants, 6 in each row spaced very close together. 4 heirlooms, 2 cherry's and 12 Better boys. All are entirely too close together but they are doing well. I just planted 4 hills (3 seeds in each, cucumbers don't like wet feet) of straight 8's, I don't use hybrids like Boston pickling etc cause any volunteers that come up won't fruit and just ad to the vines on your trellis...
