Nice but what keeps the deer out? I can't grow anything without the deer cleaning me out.

Get a salt block and put it away from the garden....use chicken wire fence....shotgun

Yup, squash vine borers. FWIW, even tho they look and fly like a wasp they are actually a species of moth...
Very hard to control, the adults emerge about the middle of June, lay eggs and a couple of weeks later the larve bore into plants...
About all you can do is to plant a 2nd crop the 1st week of July after all of the larve have hatched...
There are some insecticides labeled safe for control but I hate to use them, would rather just plant a 2nd crop...

At the family place in GA seems hunting dogs do the trick.
