Also, Michigan State only went 0-11 the year before Saban arrived because they had to forfeit 5 wins. So in reality, Saban inherited a team that 5-6 on the field.

That's fine. I can tell you are missing the point, too. Saban still took a 5-6 team to 6-5-1. Still an improvement, no?

Add to that...this:
When Saban arrived in East Lansing, Michigan prior to the 1995 season, MSU had not had a winning season since 1990, and the team was sanctioned by the NCAA for recruiting violations committed under his predecessor and former mentor, George Perles

I am not a "Let's fire Smart!", guy, but does this team, right now, look as fundamentally sound as it did last year? Never mind wins and losses. Fundamentally.
Do you think coaching decisions are as sound?
Does it look like the team is as motivated? Do they look as prepared? Are adjustments being made by the coaching staff?

These things have nothing to do with talent level, but everything to do with coaching.

Dumbass.

I never said you did, I was referring to the Gurley girl post and my post responding to ot.

You came in with your ignorant assumptions and tried to argue with me about it.

We had 4 4* commit since 2014 that were recruited as tackles.

Who are they and what positions are they playing now?

Ben Cleveland
Patrick Allen
Dyshon Sims
D'Andre Baker

I remembered Cleveland as a 3*, but the composite 247 shows him as a 4*. I THINK they are still playing tackle, but I'm not sure. I mean, you would think one or two would pan out. I'm all for going ahead and getting Cleveland some reps. I realize he is raw, but he could get some seasoning this year. I also realize they are young. Sims is the only one I remember playing at all. Maybe one or more have been red shirted?

Don't misunderstand. I was not arguing that we have plenty of OT. Just saying that the position was not completely ignored recruiting wise.

Wasn't Cleveland supposed to be our answer at LT?

Thanks for the info. I had not heard about any of them outside of Sims.

I wonder if Baker could be an answer for one spot next year...and maybe Sims if they develop? That gives Pittman another year. I am hoping we can develop some depth at that spot, and as you (Or WG, maybe?) pointed out we have a couple of highly rated OT's committed for this class, if they stay. I'm not crazy about a freshman starting, but maybe providing some depth and get quality PT.

That's what was hoped for, iirc. But somebody was saying he is very raw. Apparently played more defense than offense in high school.

Bama started Cam Robinson, Andre Smith, Samuels and a few others right out of the Gate. Marcus McNeil at AU, Wyatt at Clemson.

If their good enough, play them.

Yeah. I get the advantages. And, I guess, we have nothing to lose.

So, I don't think you really want to bring Nick Saban up as an example of a coach struggling in his first year as a Head Coach.

Sure I do.

The point is that it even takes Saban(maybe the best college coach in football history) time.

Talk of firing Smart this far into the season is the most ignorant position I have heard in quite a while.

I am not expecting him to excel his first year.

All I am asking for is competence.

What I see is complete incompetence.

I have been a Dawg fan since 1975.

I saw the players competing harder in Richt's first year and was encouraged.

I am seeing 2016 Georgia struggle against the likes of Nicholls State and Vanderbilt. This discourages me.

Kirby's the head coach of UGA. Get over it and get behind him. He needs time, we beat Ufag and it's a moot conversation. That or you can bandwagon Bama. I despise bandwagon fans!

there were a lot of encouraging things that year for sure. LOTS. However, let's also remember:

-we lost at home at night to south carolina in a game we didn't score a touchdown. While down 6-7, we at long last moved the ball inside the SC 10 with under 3 minutes left and settled for a FG. We ended up losing.
-we got shellacked by UF (who admittedly was a top 3 team in america) in a game that was never really close and we scored 1 TD.
-lost at home to a 5 loss AU team because our rookie head coach decided to run the ball on their goal line with 10 seconds left and no timeouts and the clock ran out.
-we lost to boston friggin college, in a game where instead of putting it away our rookie coach punted the ball back and saw BC drive down the field and take the lead with about 30 seconds left. BC led us in points, TOP, return yards, rush yards, and halved our penalties. Boston College.

Guess what? We went 13-1 the next year.
