We could realistically be better at every position next year aside from RB and OL. I'll never worry about RBs here which leaves us with OL. We could be a much better overall team next year but still not win anything of note because of how shaky the OL will probably be. 2018 and beyond we shoudl be rocking and rolling.

This year is irrelevant. Other than going like 4-7, nothing this season would make me sour on smart and this staff. It's year friggin 1 guys.

This year being a struggle was entirely predictable.

Losing to Vandy, was not predictable to me.

A 8-4 with losses to OM, UTk, UF, and AU or Tech...Maybe.

This team has underpreformed in almost every game.

We haven't won comfortably in any of them.

I did not see that coming.

I didn't expect to lose to Vandy either, but any expectations are dangerous with a new HC, especially one that's learning on the job. Not to mention a generally young team.

The better question is why are you even bringing up this question in Smart's first season as our HC? Frankly, you don't seem like a very reasonable Georgia fan. Did you raise this question in Richt's first season after Georgia went 8-4? Or are you even old enough to have been a Dawg fan 15 years ago?

Saban's 1st year records -

Michigan State 6 - 5 - 1
LSU 8 - 4
Bama 7 - 6

STFU.

Maybe for a true rebuild. Losing to Vandy and almost losing to Nicholls is inexcusable no matter what excuse is thrown out there.

A young talented team should beat them, a first year head coach should beat them too.

The excuses are fine for year one, but they shouldn't dampen deserved criticism of the coaching staff. Not saying you are doing that but I have seen it a lot on this board.

I just think this is more of a rebuild than people realize.

I'm not saying it's excusable. It's just not unprecedented.

Agree and I definitely realize it.

Yep, it's not like Richt never lost to lesser teams including: Vandy, Kentucky, Colorado, MSU, UCF, etc.

So we should accept it from kirby Smart? Richt never lost to a team as bad as Nicholls.

I HATE threads like these. Kirby has made mistakes. We get it. But crap, let's not fire him just yet. It is what it is. Lets give him 3-4 years. I vote 4 years, at least.

We hired Kirby to make it unprecedented though.

Its not a rebuild when you will have the talent on the defense will have in year two that is consisted of mostly the previous coaches players. It's not a rebuild when you have a elite qb in year two thanks to the old coach. We will be young on the o-line but since this season is over, kirby should be getting those guys in the 2nd string playing time as much as possible.

He still might. It's year 1.

This is why I said I expect a big jump in year 2.

How about instead of a rebuild, we call this a learning year. That goes for both the players and coaches.

how will we magically get any capable OT play next year? The interior should be much improved with the guys we return plus kindley/netori/big ben getting more reps as well. But that doesnt' change the fact that we won't have a single SEC-ready OT yet again next year. And as we've seen this year, you can be fine everywhere else but if the DEs are in the backfield within half a second you aren't really going to do much on offense. Next year, yet again, we are going to rely on either a JUCO/Grad transfer, a freshman, or moving someone out of position to play tackle. And that isn't on Kirby. You can say "well he needs to land an elite OT this year", well yeah that'd be lovely but we'd still be relying on a true freshman. Here are the OTs we've inked in the last 3 classes:

Pat Allen
Solomon Kindley
Chris Barnes
Ben Cleveland
Sam Madden
Sage Harden
Wynn (listed as guard but is playing tackle)
Dyson Sims

4 of those guys (kindley, barnes, cleveland, sims) were listed on 247 as tackles but all are currently a guard on our roster. That is very, very scary and has very little to do with kirby.

We should be much improved in 2017 but due to the woefully inadequate OL recruiting it's still probably going to be 2018 before we start making national noise. If you don't have any OTs you're not going to accomplish much.

It's been 7 games, should we go ahead and fire him now?
