Dude Gurley is raping NFL defenses. Gurley did amazing things in college. Chubb is good and a better leader for UGA than Gurley ever was. But Chubb is not as talented a football player

Ranking RBs in history has a lot less to do with pure talent IMO and more to do with what they accomplished during their time. If you're asking who are the best ever RBs to play at UGA, then Terrell Davis likely has to go above many listed... he was incredible in the NFL... But I'm pretty sure "in UGA RB History" necessitates that we're evaluating their time here.

Chubb has accomplished more at UGA statistically than Gurley... and that's with losing the majority of a season to injury rather than primarily due to a poor decision (yes Gurley ended up injured as well, but the bigger reason for his lack of production that year is obvious).

I have no problem with giving Chubb the edge there as a result. Doesn't take anything away from who Gurley is as a RB, or what he's likely going to continue to do in the NFL (which in all likelihood will be to outperform Chubb upon his arrival there).

I've seen quite a few since I started attending games in 1970 and I'm going to use the "eye test" instead of stats because there are different offensive philosophies, lines, coaches, etc

1)Walker - no questions
2)Gurley - closest thing to Walker I've seen
3)Hearst - better all around back than Chubb but not by much
4)Chubb - damn good running back
5)Hampton - all around excellent rb

Probably should include Sinkwich and Trippi in the top 5 somewhere but I never saw them play so can't rate them.

Gurley is 100% #2 by himself. You could just tell watching him that he was a generational talent. I felt like he was going to break one before every one of his carries.

Gurley looks better, but Chubb has produced better. I prefer production over looks.

Strictly talent? 3rd. But staying committed bumps him up in my book to 2 easily. I love Gurley, but Chubb represents what it means to be a Dawg in all aspects.

I think Gurley was more dominant in all aspects of the game but Chubb is more of a DGD for not getting involved in anything that could get him suspended and for not leaving early.

Chubb is great. Gurley was just better. It doesn't take anything away from Chubb. Chubb is a better leader and a better dawg.

Agree with this which is why I have to place Chubb at #2.

Before the injury, Chubb was better than Gurley, in my humble opinion. Explosive, physical, and fast.

Chubb isn't going to get the carries he used to because of the injury and because of the talent in the backfield. If Chubb was getting the carries, he probably would be leading the nation.

Gurley was more elusive and had the best vision I have ever seen. Chubb is a much more powerful runner though.

Which has nothing to do with him as a back at UGA. If Chubb goes to the NFL and "rapes" NFL defenses would that make Chubb the better back over Gurley? If a player gets more yards than Herschel Walker in the NFL, does that make them a better running back that Herschel was at UGA?
You have to consider apples to apples.

I was thinking that Chubb's vision was the best I had seen on the college level. Among the best, anyway. The way he runs towards a hole then bounces it outside, or how he looks bottled up and then makes a sudden cut and squirts through a tiny hole.

The problem with these type arguments is that they are based purely on opinion. Who has the better vision, etc. The only way to objectively determine it is by viewing statistics, and you can only do that with players in the same era. Chubb and Gurley are in the same era....the problem is they have eerily similar statistics over their career in #'s of carries, YPC, etc.

If we had 4 years of Freshman Nick he would of broke Walkers record. He is not the same back. Hopefully he is still healing and comes back to full form in the NFL and gets paid and rebuilds Chubb town. I think Gurley and Chubb were on the same level until the injury, we have just forgoten how good that sum bitch was. I remember being on the plane flying back to Nebraska to meet up with my dad and brother and head to Columbia and as soon as we got up in the air I connected to the wifi and heard about the investigation and that Gurley wasnt gonna play. I was devestated, I wanted to watch Gurley play. Then Mofuggin Nick Chubb busted loose for 250 or something and I forgot about Gurley. God he was a stud his Freshman year

I agree with you GurleyGirl. Thos are all qualities that make up the player and have to be considered. But even if they were not considered, I think Chubb might get the nod. Gurley was definitely flashier, and that's what people like to remember, but for finding running room where there was none is trademark Chubb. Chubb is harder to bring down than Gurley, although Gurley was very tough to bring down, too.

Gurley was more dominant. Couldnt be stopped in his prime when healthy. Which makes the play-calling at the end of that USCe game so much stupider. Chubb wins on heart, work ethic, and leadership.

He still is. he just isn't getting 30 carries a game. Give him 25 carries and you would have the same type of stats. When you have Michel, Swift, Herrien and Holyfield, though....

Eh. Gurley was stopped plenty of times for individual carries. I would also argue he played behind a better OLine than Chubb. There are so many variables to this argument. Basically it comes down to personal preference. Don't misunderstand me....I LOVED Gurley.
I just like Chubb better and I like his running style better.

4. Hearst
5. Hampton
6. Lars Tate
7. Tim Worley
8. Moreno
9. Robert Edwards

Im going with the Georgia Kid. TG3 had the SEC's top passer softening up the box for him. Nick had sub-par and freshmen QBs his whole career. Just watched some freshmen highlights of #27
