From everything I've read he can really flash the leather in the outfield but was mediocre at the plate, which means he would struggle at the plate in the minors.

I don't remember the specifics. The last graph I had was from his draft page so he did make 135. Your breakdown is probably right but I don't remember. I didn't want to ask him and his mother pretty much managed his money so he wouldn't blow it all. She gave him a few grand a month.

I can't either, but a ton of people do it. Buck Belue did it just off the top of my head.

I don't know if I'd say "a ton", but some people do.

It was a different era back then. For starters UGA wasn't NEARLY as hard then as it is now, and I would imagine there was quite a bit more "you had practice? We'll just count this assignment as a B then" going on in those days too.

Didn't someone say that he's not even any good at baseball? Was that on here?

Typically 33rd round guys are drafted to fill out lower classification rosters so they can field a complete team. He COULD be an exception because he might have fallen lower because of his LOI....however, a LOI isn't going to scare a team off down to the 33rd round. It MIGHT have cost him a few rounds, but if he were a sure fire prospect for baseball he would have been drafted much higher. Guys that take a contract at that level do so hoping they can catch lightening in a bottle and progress high enough to make the majors, but typically they stay in Rookie or low A ball.

If he is confident he can make it big being drafted in the NFL (And his 5* status indicates he is) then he will wait until he can get drafted and sign a multi year multi million dollare NFL contract.

Maybe a ton is a bit much, but a LOT do. Various sports. Shoot, Herschel did, Bo did....I guess what I am saying is it isn't all that rare. More unusual in Division 1 but anything below that and it is almost common....meaning that 1 or 2 kids will play two sports at the Div 2,3 NAIA levels. But there are many examples even in Div 1.

True. And it think it is becoming more rare now, but two more recent notables would be Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston.

Also Brandon Weeden, Michael Vick, Golden Tate, Denard Robinson, Johnny Manziel was drafted in baseball in 2014, and I think Chad Henne....again, it is done. I misspoke when I said a ton of people do it. I should have said more than many would think.

I'm thinking Larry Brown (96,97) and Fred Gibson (early 2000's) both played basketball at UGA...

No could and might about it. He'll get a subtantially higher offer than your typical 33rd pick with CFB leverage.

Otherwise there's absolutely no sense in the Braves drafting 'em.

they did, and even though FG was a pretty fair bball player he only averaged like 3 minutes a game. It is pretty damn rare in today's big time athletics for someone to be a success in both. Jameis did, and I'm sure there are a few others, but it's not nearly as common as you might think. Xavier Avery was supposed to star for the baseball team and I think was drafted by the rockies and he didn't make an impact on our FB or BB teams.

The Braves need to step the frick off our 5*. MLB is already dead to me, thanks to the '94 strike. The Falcons are in the abyss, in my book, thanks to constant "frick you"s to the Dawg Nation. I'm all in with the Chiefs & Rams at this point. To hell with them.

I didn't even realize Fred played basketball too wow. Pretty sure Nick Marshall was trying to do the same for us too. Playing two sports in college at this level is insanely difficult but Godwin could be a guy that can use his speed on two fields and handle it fine. Not sure what type of student he is though that would be my main concern.

Gibson! I was trying to think of him. I think you are right. Point is, it is not what I would call rare. I got a little carried away when I said ton of people play two sports...I should have just said it is not rare.

If you put all the guys who play two college sports on a scale there would be not just a ton but many tons.

Larry Brown was a hoss at TE for us...also got some minutes on our sweet 16 hoops team in '96.

Shoulda beat Syracuse who ended up being runner up that year.

Uhhh not really, when compared to the people in college who only play 1 sport.

Let's stick to men, and only stick to the big 3. The amount of people who play exclusively 1 of football, baseball, or baskeball compared to the amount of people who play more than 1 is probably a 90/10 ratio and that's being generous. The amount of play more than 1 and actually have a noticable impact at both is probably more like 99/1.

I guess you misunderstood my stupid joke about weight. A ton of players as literal 2,000 lbs rather than a figurative ton of players.

Not very funny, I'll admit, but I was bored.

Go Dawgs.

Good. I need a final nail in the coffin for my braves fandom. I think this would just about take care of it.
