Ain't read thread but our O play calling is horrible. I can't decide if we have upgraded or downgraded at the OC spot but either way, our offensive play calling is putrid.

Really? I actually see improvement. We are establishing the run. We are mixing in passes with occasional shots down field. It looks like Chaney is opening up the playbook as the season goes along, and Eason gets comfortable.

Auburn has a pretty darn good defense. I was very impressed with the intensity level the team played with today. For 3 weeks in a row I have seen improvement and am becoming more encouraged.

This game does make me wonder why the frick we lost to Vanderbilt even more than I already was.

Vanderbilt damn near beat Auburn and Florida.

vs UF 13-6 loss
vs AU 23-16 loss

Vandy is a good team this year, by Vanderbilt standards.

Yep, Vandy has a good defense. They just don't quite have enough on offense to beat the better teams.

I will admit it.... i am back on the train. Saved the season as far as i am concered. Bonus - watching the fear in the posts from the AU faithful prior to the game and the melt, post game. What a bunch of chumps.

solid post - appreciate the honesty

I had predicted this win AND that it would turn the fan base around re: Kirby

WHY did I predict the win?

1. We were due for our 2nd big W of the year (1st being UNC)
2. Aubie was due for an off day AND had serious injuries coming in - they were overconfident and, I felt, overlooking us
3. Vandy - the way Vandy played them & UF made me feel that we had a shot & could match up with AU

YES, Vandy fell apart against Mizzou, but same principles apply - Miz was due for a surprise good game & Vandy for a bad one - Dores played over their heads against us, AU & UF - they were due for a letdown as well

Never off the train. Still like the hire, just really want KS to be successful because he's a UGA guy.

Just still frustrated that we left 3 wins on the board and IMO it was coaching. Yeah mistakes were made on the field , but a lot also on the sidelines. Using hindsight the dawgs really could have won the East.

So a little bummed. However , really pleased with the November strides so far, a season that seem to be headed to 5-7 now has 8-4 in its sights.

agree 100% - the coaching HAS been suspect all season

we have seen A LOT of calls that just make us say WHAT THE frick

but I feel like it was TWO games (Vany & Tenn) - the most disappointing was against the Vols - I mean, there really is NO EXCUSE for a defenive guru to get beat on the lowest % blay in football

BUT, I am willing to chalk that up to the "rookie learning curve" - if we see Kirby making as many questionable calls in years 3 & 4 - we need to be really concerned

But I do think he will learn from his mistakes & get better

Hell, had Gus noticed how wide open his receiver was on that last punt, they'd have probably won the game - a lot of our win yesterday had to do with bad coaching decisions on Gus' part...

They got torched by GT and Mizzou and rank 61st in total defense.Yea,they do have some talent at LB but to call them good is a stretch.

Valid. I will qualify my statement: Vandy has a "tough" defense but obviously not tough enough to overcome their limitations on offense.

I'm hopeful we continue to look like we did yesterday on defense. That was awesome, and we have a ton of youth on the D Line.

Kirby still made a game management error or two that could have been costly. Not calling a TO when the clock was rolling with around 2:30 left in the first half on 4th down for Auburn was incredibly dumb. It didn't matter, because we didn't do anything on offense anyways, and Auburn punted earlier than they should have in the play clock. But Kirby needs to realize that having the ball with 2:30 and 1 timeout is far better than having it with 1:50 and 2 timeouts.

Our biggest problem is obviously the OL, but I really do believe Pittman can get this thing turned around.

I'm not trying to be critical but there was no need for trick plays yesterday.

his clock management has been suspect all season - hope we see improvement on that moving forward and especially next year...

I agree. An occasional trick play keeps the defense on its toes but twice in the redzone is a little too damn cute for me. Those 3 pts we gave up on Godwins interception in the endzone sure would have been nice in the fourth qtr.

It shows, IMO, thta Smart does not have confidence in our offense. Probably the OL, specifically.

I would have liked to see them crowd the LOS like we do on the play where the TE blocks down and we flip the ball to the outside to Chubb for a sweep....but fake the flip to Chubb and let the TE chip the DE then drag across the field to the corner of the end zone. I think the whole defense would have taken off to the outside and left the TE wide open. It's a good play if it works....not so good if they cover the TE.

I wasn't crazy about the trick play early, triggas interception.

But I kinda liked the throw to Eason, if he holds on and scores , the environment would have been nuts. Also love that JE really has no fear, love that he holds the kicks and is willing to do whatever is called. Just a real gamer.

Yes it would. However, I hated the play. More than at any time the defense will try to lay lumber in the end zone. It's a good way to get Eason hurt. Not even going to mention he isn't used to catching passes....and trust me. There is a big difference in catching a hike out of the shotgun and catching a pass with defenders all around you waiting to lay your head open.

Defense has improved throughout the year imo

Offense has not. Jacob looked about as good as he has all year last night, but poor play calling held him and the team.

Idk if Kirby will fire Chaney, but he should. Kirby should ask Muschamp what loyalty to a shite OC will get you.

Your not kidding. Chubb would have walked in had he just ran left on that play.
