Second and short throw a 60 yard pass > 3rd down draw > Punt.

Like clockwork...

Was this your much anticipated Chaney post? If so I'm thoroughly disappointed...

Awwww. Now I'm disappointed. I was really, really REALLY hoping I could get your approval.

Sorry. I wasn't a Clash fan, so I am unfamiliar. it was totally unintentional.

100 or so yards over the course of 13 games that led to less points. Are you trying to tell me those yards counted for something? That's less than 10 yards per game that led to -1 point per game.

Yards flip field position, which is important. We averaged 1.5 more ppg and 22 more ypg vs power 5 teams.

He got nothing of the sort from me. I was probably the first person critical of Kirby here.

Sorry. that wasn't necessarily directed at you. It was in general. Those of us that were critical took a lot of guff for being....critical. And....I was not meaning to criticize Kirby in this thread. It was mainly showing the irony of giving Kirby a pass for facing certain circumstances, while they were the exact circumstances Chaney faced, and people are wanting to run him out of town.

You posted season long stats. Those stats had less points this year than last. That's the whole point of offense, scoring points.

Not always. Sometimes your offense needs to play for field position....but your point is well taken.

(I am guessing the second part of your post was directed at djs, though, since it was his comment that you are responding to. I really didn't notice that we scored 12 fewer points over the course of the season. however, with the obstacles Chaney had, I would say 12 fewer points is still not altogether bad.

That's not isolating offensive points, is it?

Dude. If you know anything about football at all, you know that is exactly when to go deep.

I get that. Was that what happened for the entire Auburn game? Never had the objective to score, just flip the field?

Obviously the objective is always to score. But you want to at least move the ball into the other teams territory and keep them bottled up. By the same token, if you start at your own 20 or less, you want a couple of first downs so you can punt the ball and bottle up your opponent.

How about a couple first downs do you have space to operate and get more first downs? The goal shouldn't be a sweet punt.

Chaney has been an OC in 56 SEC games at UT, Arkansas and UGA. The record for those teams is 15-41.

The best conference records he's seen as an SEC OC were at Tennessee in 2009 (with Kiffin's offense) and this season: 4-4.

His offenses also scored less than 20 points in half of those 56 games.

It is your immediate goal, trust me. Once you get breathing room, sure, you want more. but if you are pinned inside your 5, your immediate/minimum goal is to get a couple of first downs. You play for field position. Sure, you hope for more...

Wins and losses are all on the OC? I didn't realize.

I honestly don't know how good those offenses were, but that would be a concerning statistic to me much more than the teams record. Wasn't both stints with some pretty inferior head coaches, and/or rebuilding teams?

Wow. It seems like I have heard a version of that song, or at least something similar. Wow. Plagiarism. I've gotta watch that!

It isn't all on him and I'm sure there were other factors that contributed to this record (Bray being injured most of '11; UT having no defense in '12, etc).

Well, as far as the coaches he worked for, we all know the story with Dooley. Bielema hasn't really been much better with Enos in terms of wins and losses.

That said, it's hard to spin being held to fewer than 20 points in half of the conference games you've coached in.

There were 4 non offensive TD's in 2015 and 3 on 2016 but I don't feel like looking for what games they were in. Seeing that made me realize how far behind Bama Georgia really is. Aren't they at 15 non offensive TD's for the season or something ridiculous? Either way it's moot. This offense isn't any better or worse than last season's. I'll focus on figuring out where Chaney gets his food because I'm starving and he clearly knows how to score at the table.
