Housing is supposedly legit. Fully furnished 2 bedroom 1 bathroom house. Down side is I have to share it with the other contracted worker.

I also will get my own state vehicle to travel the area.

st. Mary's is ok. Cost of living would be very cheap. I'm going to go ahead and say that a majority of professionals down in southeast Georgia commute from other cities. A lot of jacksonville/fernindina beach residents in st Mary's. whatbdo you mean by contracted.

St Mary's is about 1 block large.

Great place to raise a family or retire, but if I was your age, I would get bored in about a week.

Then rephrase the OP question .... would he move to Jax and work in St Mary's?

Two hours solid, one way. "Close Enough" is subjective. For me, that's not close enough.

It's a rhetorical question.

If he has to drive to Jax to have a good time, because there isn't shite in St. Mary's for him, then shouldn't his question be about living in Jax?

PNW...I don't know what your major is but I'd be very careful that this position is a true resume enhancement and not something you're counting on for the long term. DNR State Park lifers are being trimmed back and having to cover multiple parks and historic sites due to budget cuts. its truly a labor of love for the guys in the field. Again...I'm talking about State Parks and Historic Sites so if this is something different you can disregard

Not trying to dissuade you but just a thought because I do have so inside knowledge on this one.

I could be completely wrong, but I never thought people that worked for parks, dnr, etc. Were always on the lower end of the totem pole as far as income. Nothing wrong with that at all, especially if you love what you're doing. I just always thought for them it was more about being outdoors, benefits and early retirement. Not about getting six figure salaries.

You're correct in that most do it for the job. But compared to the commercial job market the pay is somewhat below par.

My only point was that support roles in DNR aren't high up the totem pole when it comes to GA spending so when the politicians start cutting DNR doesn't jave much of a voice.

Again..I'm just talking Parks here...maybe Game and Fish has more clout.

Here's the deal amico....

We're gonna just go ahead and claim this land as our own. Capisce?

And then we're gonna hire a bunch of busybodies to march around it barking orders at visitors and filing reports about pinestraw accumulation rates all day....

And, most importantly.................we're gonna make YOU pay THEIR salaries for this unwanted bullshite.........

Capisce?

frick no.

Anyone that answers "yes" to that question is part of the problem.

It's the equivalent of asking........"So you don't think we should have State and National healthcare?"

WTF?

So would you trust private enterprise to maintaining historic sites? Like Etowah Mounds or the home sites AH Stephens?

Im a big fan of private property but the sites held by the State like Unicoi or Cloudland Canyon or Okeefenokee should be held for the benefit of all Georgians to enjoy. If I had the money I'd buy them all and do this...but most people with that kind of money Don't have those same intentions.

The parks and historic site system works. The folks a tier below the politicians work and maintain these sites for all the right reasons.

Doesn't sound like it to me. At all.

The naacp is calling for the sandblasting of Lee, Jackson, and Davis off of the side of Stone Mountain.

This would not be an issue if it were a private property.

Karl Marx couldn't have said it better himself.

Sqautch, I recently joined a new hunting club. We have limits that are stricter than the state limits. We don't do this out of fear of getting fined or thrown in prison by mafia henchmen aka game wardens. We do it for selfish reasons.

Also: Tell me....... If you locked up with diarreah, would you rather shite in your own bathroom or in a MARTA station bathroom?

Government owned and operated land is wayyyyy different than government controlled Healthcare.

So you and your friends decide what should happen at your hunting club. Fair enough.

If I bought Unicoi and decided I wanted to cut all the timber and build a theme park you good with that?

Or I buy Amicalola (sp?) Falls and decide to put up a gate and build a resort for only blue blood rich folk tourists with enough money?

Maybe I buy Etowah and level the mounds because I hate Indians?

You're taking the anti state thing too far. If all of our precious state sites are up for bid then hedge fund Yankees would own everything.

Wrong.

They are both supported and paid for by stealing from people.....They are both perverted and misallocated because of beaureacratic idiocy.....and they are both ran by the same people that couldn't manage land and/or healthcare if their life depended on it in a free level playing field...but instead, only because of the benefit of their government-enforced mafia privileges.
