Honestly man I try to not to speculate too much. Maybe we would've won. Maybe not. The kid in me wants to believe that is the case, but the pessimist whose nightly blood lust has spilled over into my days looks at our track record and says that we would've probably lost a few regardless. I just don't see anything to be optimistic about next year. I fear my mask of sanity is about to slip.
Get the frick out of my head you weirdo

but clearly the data shows if you consistently have top 5 recruiting classes over the last 4 years, you have a much better chance of winning a NC.
Absolutely they have a better chance. Nobody should argue that point. But there is never a guarantee.....and I realize you are not saying that. But luck and pure bad breaks did us in last season and this one. And sometimes stuff like that happens. I mean, who would have thought Auburn would be in the position they are in right now?
People want to complain about last season, and Richt not spiking the ball. And I agree. bad decision. But Saban made a horrible decision against Auburn. It happens sometimes. but to point at that to argue for firing a coach is not right. ALL coaches make poor decisions from time to time. And...as much as I like Murray....he should never have looked over to the bench last season in that position. he should have taken control and spiked the ball....and believe me....I am a BIG Murray guy.

In all fairness...ALL teams suffer injuries. But we simply have had more than our share, and to key elements of the team. Mitchell...I just shrug. After last season and this season, I am worried he is just injury prone.
But very teams could suffer losing their top two running backs AND top 4 receivers and survive. Imagine LSU without those elements....or Missouri. Or Alabama. (Well, they MIGHT survive it)
Personally, I think Richt did one of his best coaching jobs this season. (BOY, am I gonna take a LOT of flack for saying that!)

but honestly. had we stayed relatively healthy, what do you think our record would be?
Special teams weren't injured, though. Probably still would've dropped a couple.

Year..Preseason concensus...final AP
2001, 25, 22
2002, 9, 3
2003, 10, 7
2004, 3, 7
2005, 13, 10
2006, 16, 23
2007, 14, 2
2008, 2, 13
2009, 12, NR
2010, 22, NR
2011, 18, 19
2012, 7, 5
I don't like using the AP but that's what I could find. Since Richt has been here, we've had 6 years we finished better, 1 year that was essentially a wash, and 5 years that were worse. Pretty even if you ask me, considering how much guesswork goes into preseason predictions.
And if you'll look at this chart, you can see that our total change from preseason to postseason going back to 1989 is actually in the positive, at 3. Which means we're right in the middle. Look at some of the schools below us, including OSU, Clemson, UT, Florida, etc. The bottom 4 are FSU, Texas, USC, and Clemson, teams who over the past 20 years have underachieved in the polls essentially every single year.

Ok. Special Teams cost us the Clemson game. Any others? None that I can think of. And if we were relatively healthy, we might could have overcome that one. Yes. Gurley had a hip flexor rather early in the game.
If we only dropped one because of special teams, then why would we have dropped a couple of the rest of the team were healthy?

I actually didn't think it was a bad decision it just ended an otherwise exciting game in a very anticlimactic (and disappointing) fashion. It was an aggressive play call. If it works, Malcom Mitchell catches a TD pass. If not (and assuming the stars don't align against us like they did) you have time to run one more play. The offense definitely had Bama back on their heels and Bobo was going for a quick kill. Sometimes these things work out and sometimes not.

The Vandy loss & that fluke arse Auburn shite pretty much ruined my year...
Both of those games convinced me CMR ain't as tight with the Lord as he needs to be...
fricking Buzzard luck man... Gotdamn... we can't kill nothing or find anything dead...
9-3 with one win or the other, I could've rationalize it in my little head & imma ok lookin' forward to next year...
Beat Vandy & come back on Auburn??... 10-2 this year with our injuries?... I'd be almost as Disney as Firewind... wouldn't watch him suck CMR's cock or anything but I could rationalize why he did...
