You say you wear tanks not to emulate walmart or ghetto culture or to show off muscles tats and pit hair, but instead because it's hot outside. So, you should apply this philosophy to your shorts too since the shorter they are the cooler they would be.

If you're actually looking for clothes to combat the heat, a breathable long sleeve shirt would be the play.

Tanks are awesome if you're in shape. Every time I see a fattie or a 110 skinny kid in one I cringe.

Peter Buck agrees that tanks are awesome for all but runts and fat slobs which is why he never wears one.

Never tried that strategy, but There are reasons cyclists and football players don't wear that, and I bet heat is one of them.

That's because they have to wear skin tight stuff. Look at fishing guides for example. Loose fitting long sleeves. No sunburn and constant shade.
Regardless, tank tops provide no great comfort advantage over a t shirt

I disagree. If you have broader shoulders and arms, a tank top fits much better without having the tight fitting sleeves.
