Dead landscapers walking. The Cornbread mafia has them marked for death, I would bet.

If they're smart they'll head straight for old mexico after healing from plastic surgery to change their facial identities

Weather forecast looks good for qualifying on Sunday. Thunderstorms threatening the Bud Shootout Saturday evening though..

If it got moved to Sunday after qualifying, that might be even better though. Make a whole day of it.

Trump to make surprise 500 visit next Sunday. You heard it here first.

Not sure if they'll let him do the command though because they've already named Dignan from Bottle Rocket as grand marshal.

I think it's from 2004 when W was grand marshall. I remember after the race started, they showed AIrForce 1 taking off right next door at the Daytona airport. Was pretty cool.

You are probably right. Jimmie never raced with sr. In the cup Erie and I don't think Ricky Craven was driving the tide car in 01 either.

Qualifying for the Daytona 500 hasn't changed, timed laps, top 2 times locked in to the front row.

It's back to the timed lap format, but looks like they're adding a cut-off gimmick. FIrst lap is to determine a top 12. Thouse outside of top 12 are done, and then the 12 do one more lap to determine spots 1 and 2 in the front row.

Could be worse, I guess.

I kinda liked the idea of segmented races but the way fox explained it makes it sound silly and deranged from the general idea of racing.

Every race is going to play out similarly.

For instance. Every team will put at the first caution no matter how many laps are in the run. Rarely will we see a green flag run.

Another potential good thing about the segments is maybe they wont interrupt the racing as much with commercials. Since there'll be scheduled breaks between segments. We'll see.

Yep. And if it does stay green there's a huge window to pit assuming everyone will come back in between segments.

Actually they haven't made that part clear. Is the restart order for the next segment determined by finishing order of previous segment? Or does it still get shuffled according to who pits fastest or just stays out?

Elliott and Earnhardt on the front row. Glory days.

I'll bet lots of folks on this board don't realize that NASCAR had the highest attendance of any sport in North America in the late 80s. Hell ,at Talledega they would be 50 or 60,000 on a Thursday afternoon just for qualifying. Dawsonville was practically a ghost town. This of course was pre-restrictor plate. It was definitely the golden era of NASCAR.

To the Elliott and Earnhardt families,

Pre-plate racing...although I liked drag and Daytona the most in the late 90s and early 2000s.

I'm going out on a limb to say you've never attended an unrestricted race at a super speedway. Attendance for the Clash Sunday was 15,000. Here's a clip from of the 87 (last full throttle )Busch Clash and look at the grandstands.
Golden era (only 20 laps long)

I've seen alot of races in 40+ years, and I think 48% is pretty conservative.

Put me down for Kesilandsky to win Duel #1 tonight and Denny Hamlin to take Duel #2. If it doesn't rain.

Wow, Chase is a quick study.
First driver to win the Pole plus a Duel since Earnhardt and 96.
Last driver to win the Pole,a Duel and the 500, that would be Chase's old man and 85.
