Yeah, NASCAR has done everything in their power to push me away but, I keep watching. The new points format for 2017 is completely ridiculous.

Reminds me of the olld dirt track heat races. Three segments that award points equals hard racing through out. I'm looking forward to it.

This is how companies finally die.

They're quadrupling-down on their latest failing attempts to artificially create excitement. Instead of admitting/addressing the actual causes for why the excitement is gone.

R.I.P nascar.

You may be right, have to wait and see if that comes about. One point I read, with the accumulation of points the way they have set it for this season, no one will be able to win a race and then spend the rest of the season in "test" mode. They're going to have to compete each week for those points and a better advantage in the Chase. It might work. Or, it may backfire like everything else Brian France has tried.

It certainly smacks of "artificial excitement", too. Obvious attempt to force the teams to race hard all season instead of just for one win and in. Will it fix the problem?

Simply cut the season in half or even just lop off a third of it and excitement would spike tenfold. At least.

Or add a few more short tracks and road courses... cut most tracks back to one race per year with the exception maybe of Daytona, Talladega, Darlington and Charlotte... everyone else, 1 race a year.

Amen brother. When I was a kid our summer vacation was a week at Myrtle Beach topped off by the Southern 500 on the way home. When France moved that race it was the last straw for a lot of traditionalist. It didn't take long to realize that moving Darlington was a mistake.

So what's the real story behind carl edwards walking away from a competitive multi-million dollar career? Is he being blackmailed by someone who has proof that he's a robot?

If true, that actually makes perfect sense. Was never a fan, but he was a great aggressive talented driver. The problem was as soon as he got out of car, he turned into the most phony fake unlikeable plastic robot yes-man ever involved with the sport. Aka he'd make the perfect politician. Good riddance.

Totally agree but to many drivers are worried to much about sponsors and not enough about the sport.

That plus NASCAR killed the competition with the car of tomorrow. To much downforce!

Agree. The Car of Tomorrow was the beginning of the end, imo. That and the greed expansion and all the 1.5 miler cookie cutter snooze tracks replacing the classic tracks and races.

Is Junior done with the concussion vacation yet? He's about the only one left I can halfway pull for.

Absolutely, they destroyed a great track when they put the dogleg in Atlanta and flipped the straights.

I generally watch till September, cause I hate basketball and other than golf there is nothing else on. I still couldn't tell you who the Champion was last year though.

Junior is testing this week in Phoenix.
That being said I think he should retire. His speech was a little slurred this summer. He's a multimillionaire and just married a beautiful woman. I guess it's in his blood.

The Elliott kid is going to be something. You would like him Jefferson ,he caught some major shite when he spoke at a Trump rally.

When they left the RO7 motor and went to the new cars it all went downhill.

Progressive banking really hurt the competition as well. Part of racing was seeing two guys fight over the piece of real estate.

Bristol is a perfect example. That was the best race on the circuit, imo.

They kept saying theyd tear up Bristol and put it back the way it was if people stayed unhappy, but here we are..

It's now one of the most boring races all year. Sad to see the stands barely even half full there now. Or less.

I like Chase. Almost forgot about him though. The debut was kind of underwhelming. HMS is also pretty much the evil empire to me so that part sucks too.

This thread is starting to get me excited about the 500 though
