He can throw a decent pass, but he didn't show me much of anything good today.

He stood too long in the pocket, didn't make good reads (with a few exceptions) and either overthrew or didn't put enough on throws (letting them float).

I didn't have high expectations for him today since it was only his 2nd start, but a good word to describe the entire game would be "uninspired".

He played decent. Off season will fix his reads where he missed some open receivers.

Yeah, he held the ball too long and didn't look as smooth as Murray. Even with that, he put the team in position to win the game at the end, we just could catch the ball. O-Line was also complete horse shite all day.

Mason really isn't worth a shite. Period.

I don't think Mason necessarily put us in a position to win it. He had the 29 yard pass to Conley which started the drive, but then it was all Gurley from there until the dropped pass by Lynch.

It was just sloppy all game. Lots of dropped passes. Receivers couldn't get open and Mason didn't make good reads for most of the game. OL was inconsistent as usual, and without Gurley, we're probably look at 12 points instead of 19.

It's still too early to get an accurate picture of Mason, but he played a good game against GT and an uninspired one against Nebraska. I think we're going to have a huge drop off next year, going from a 4-year starter in Murray to a 2-game starter in Mason. I'm not feeling optimistic about next season, especially if our defense doesn't get real good during the off season.

Doesnt look like Mason is going to be the answer at QB next year

Something else I noticed.... Welch was in the earphones, not Bauta...

I wouldn't put anything on Masons play going into next season. Not one back hand pass. That is a Bobo trade mark. The athletes will be in Spring practice and the O will be ok.

He played 1/2 of a good game vs tech.

I was hopeful and optimistic but Mason has given me no reason to remain hopeful and optimistic.

If he was a freshman, maybe, but how much better is a 5th year senior going to get in spring practice?

He had a slow start but improved as the game went on, and he did what he needed to do to win the game, so that's why I said "good" rather than "great".

With that said, what little hope I had after the GT game was dashed today. If we didn't have Gurley doing his thing, Mason would have looked far worse, IMO.

I hope he improves dramatically with a few months to go over his tape and work on his mechanics, but I doubt he will improve enough to compete with Murray if Murray would had another year of eligibility. He will probably be the starter unless Bauta or Park absolutely destroy it in the preseason. He will do good enough to win some games, but I don't think he will be a one-man game-changer like Murray was this season.

With a healthy Gurley and a few receivers who can catch and get separation consistently, he will be fine as long as he is not asked to score 35 a game...

Mason did everything you could possibly ask for a winning QB. He led his team down the field... again... gotta catch the fricking ball.

Who was the last SEC champ that didn't average 35 points a game?

Who was the last division winner, east or west, that didn't average 35 points a game?

If you don't have an offense that can maintain that average, you probably aren't going to win your division, much less the whole deal.

If Mason is a good quarterback "as long as he doesn't have to score 35 a game" then I equate that to him not being a good-enough quarterback.

I hope he proves me wrong, this post gets dug up in a year, and I get to look stupid. Not much would make me happier.

Well, the game is over and we're still down by 5. The overall theme of the players seemed to be "We don't care." Reminded me of the team attitude in the Liberty Bowl in 2010.

He didn't screw up the last drive but he wasn't the one who put us in a position to win it. I give Gurley more credit than Mason there.

And yes, the ball should have been caught.
