These players became his players the instant he signed his contract with Georgia. The key to success for any coach is, of course, to draft players that fit your system. But a first year coach can have success by adapting a system that best utilizes the talent available. Not getting RBs outside the tackles, and not using Godwin and our TEs like we have in past years is NOT designing an offense around the talent on the team.

When you have to go to RI for a LT (a SECOND team all-American in THAT conference?), that is saying quite a bit...which ain't good, my friend...

Could it also be that he developed into a D1 caliber lineman and used his grad transfer year to attempt to better his draft possibilities? What does it say about all the other SEC teams who also offered him?

I was reading the other day about the class the killed UGA. It was the 2013 class that thought they were going to be so great.

I am taking this from another post on another forum but this gives some perspective.

Tray Matthews – S – Transferred

Brice Ramsey – QB/P – Not a Contributor

Tramel Terry – WR – Transferred

Shaq Wiggins – CB – Transferred

Tim Kimbrough – ILB – Transferred

Leonard Floyd – OLB – NFL

Toby Johnson – DT – Out of Eligibility

Reggie Wilkerson – CB – Plays Limited Role

A.J. Turman – RB – Transferred

Johnny O’Neal – ILB – Not a Contributor

Reggie Carter – ILB – Significant Contributor at Inside Linebacker

Jonathan Rumph – WR – Out of Eligbility

Davin Bellamy – OLB – Starting OLB

John Atkins – DT – Significant Contributor at Defensive Tackle

Reggie Davis – WR – Significant Contributor at Wide Receiver

Ryne Rankin – ILB – Special Teams Player

Shaquille Fluker – S – Transferred

This is the junior class. Out of 31 players there are 5 that are actually contributing on the field. 18 are no longer with the team and 13 have transferred. Almost half of the 2013 class have transferred. We are playing a bunch of sophomores and freshmen.

You mean how Florida had a transfer from Fordham that started 13 games for them last year at OT?

It's not a comparison, it's an example. Meyer and literally every succeful coach to run a football team has had rough patches, just relax and

Saban won everywhere once he had superior talent. Especially in the SEC. It appears to be the assumption of many here that Kirbs will run a similar path. I would love him to, but I'm not ready to assume that...

I also am not of the mindset that Kirbs should get a pass on on field issues this year just because mean old RichtyRicht left him with a team devoid of any good players...

I'd love for this team to improve this year. A good coach would make the current team better. In fact, there is no better way to judge a man's coaching ability than to see him improve the same/similar team another coach failed with... Show me they are more disciplined... Show me they are doing the little things right... Or, we can just throw our hands up in the air, blame Mike Ridge and wait for a few top three recruiting classes. Then we will be really good... You'll see...

That is appalling.

I knew it was bad, but seeing it all listed like that....yikes.

I'm sure as hell not giving him a Pass? I don't think most UGA fans will pat Kirby on the back and blame the roster if we get wood-sheded again this weekend.

For myself, at least, I linked the article because I feel like the recruiting and culture change is going to take a few years and that Kirby's vision is a good one. However, I do expect to see improvement week-to-week with this team. There is NO excuse for last weekend, even with talent deficiencies. I'm not giving him a pass, but I def take heart in knowing that the program should be heading in the right direction.

Let's not get all doom and gloom before the man even coaches half a season.

Let's compare to the Holy Grail of recruiting.

The Bama 2013 class
R Foster- starts
Henry-pro
J Allen- starts
OJ Howard-starts
Robert Foster-2nd string
Ashawn Robinson-pro
A Kamara- transfer
Dee Liner-transfer
A Tenpenney-transfer
Grant Hill- not in 2 deep
Tyron Jones- transfer
C Bateman- not in 2 deep
Tim Williams-(arrested on weapons charge) was a starter
Maurice Smith- transfer -and starts at UGA
A Stewart- starts
D Paige- not in 2 deep depth chart
A Averett- 2nd string
L Brown- not with program
Eddie Jackson-starter
R Falkins- has not played
B Bozemen- first year starter
J Cook- transfer
B Hill -transfer
Walker Jones- not in 2 deep depth chart
Parker McCloud- transfer (at UGA)
Cole Mazza- long snapper

Looks like Bama has 6 or 7 starters... Depending on the weapons charge thingy. Plus a special teams starter.

I count 9 transfers.

A few others left or graduated.

A few went to the pros.

Some contribute to depth or ST

Crazy how coach Saban has been able to field a team let alone win with these numbers...

When taking into account both the number and quality of players, that's a stark difference. Thanks for proving our point Peter.

The big point you fail to mention is that many of the transfers/non-impact players in that bama class likely transferred/haven't made an impact because there are 5 stars 2 and 3 deep ahead of them. It's pretty easy to absorb personnel losses when you have a who's who of the last 3 years of HS football players all over your roster.
