I'm leaning towards Herman at this point because I think we actually have a better chance of retaining Pruitt. Think about it, Smart is a DC and Saban might well fill his DC vacancy with Pruitt. There is little doubt that Pruitt is ambitious and wants to be a HC. What better way to prepare than as Saban's Defensive Coordinator.

I have full confidence that Kirby would bring in an OC that is about the same.

Why? I am not arguing that he would not...but I am curious why so many believe Smart is going to make all the right decisions?

No, we are not. Sorry, but we just aren't. The only people that think this are UGA fans. Texas has more history, prestige, money, facilities and fan base. Gerogia is definitely NOT on the same level job wise for HC.

You would be wrong:

-Clay Travis of fox sports has Texas and Uga 2 and 3.
- USA today guy has both in tier 1.
- Andy staples of sports illustrated has Uga best job in the nation.

Texas also has their own TV channel. There aren't many better jobs than Georgia, but that's one of them. IMO, Texas football coach is the best job in all of college athletics.

And that would be Texas #2 and UGA #3

And the Sporting News has Texas at #1 and UGA not even in the top 10.

Athlon has Texas #1 and UGA #8

Bleacher Report (Yeah, I know) has Texas #3 and UGA #8

There are more people thinking Texas is the better job than UGA. It's just a fact.

Oh. And the USA Today ranking you cite? Has Texas as the #1 ranked job and UGA #9.

Texas and Georgia are both elite but Texas is a better job. It just is. The only downside was dealing with a psychopath AD and that's not an issue anymore.

Texas, maybe (their fans don't think they could pry him). A&M and Baylor, absolutely not. You don't downgrade your HC job because you're more comfortable in one area. Baylor isn't even a top 25 job. You don't leave a top 5-10 job for that. Texas is the best job in the nation, but I'm still not sure he would leave for Texas if he was our coach at the time.

So what? Thats a different argument. You said only UGA folks held the UGA job in such high regard to be mentioned with Texas. Clearly thats not true. Travis having them ranked side by side.

Add USA todays Dan Wolken to the list, says UGA is top 3.

The USA today rank from Ty Duffy is here:

Hell, I don't think so. The Big 12 (which has only 10 teams for goodness sake) struggles to keep that conference together, hell Nebraska bolted for greener pastures. That is an iconic Big 12 program and they left. That would be akin to a LSU or UGA leaving the SEC. To even has a lowly 10 members they had to reach across the country to West Virginia. West Virginia.

If Texas or Oklahoma leave, that whole thing crumbles into dust. They have trouble placing a team in the playoff picture. When conferences expand that is where the big boys come apicking.

Get the right coach at UGA and Texas can't touch us.

I want the spread offense brought to UGA and that should be enough. You never will out bama bama no matter how hard you try and copy them.

Georgia has all the talent in the world to run that high tempo scoring machine like Florida did in the middle 2000 and Ohio State does today.

I don't want the full blown spread, but maybe some version of it. We have to many tight ends and fullbacks right now.

Texas has that entire conference under its thumb, even when they aren't winning. It's a powerful enough program to go independent and thrive if it wants to.

Doesn't matter what USA Today, Andy Staples, or Fox Sports thinks....only matters what Mr. Herman thinks. I suspect if he wanted to tie himself to UGA and forgo Texas or TAMU he'd already be our coach.

Now let's just hope whatever our AD's beef is with Pruitt doesn't eff up Kirby. Kirby and Pruitt would be a dam sight to see. Bring in a good OC and we are set.

And why should UGA fans have confidence in Kirby's OC selection? He's been preparing for this move for probably 3 years. He has an idea of what he wants and who he wants. Remember CMR bringing in unknown BVG? A good DC will recognize a good OC. I happen to think Kirby will do a great job at UGA...he ain't coach Boom, who is a blow-hard doofus.

I fail to see how this makes sense if we are in talks with our first choice.

I agree with you BTW- thinks it 100% Kirby. I'm OK with it. Herman would've been a home run on many levels. Smart makes sense on a lot of levels as well.

Kirby, Pruitt, and the right OC will reek havoc. Shat, if we could hank pick 30 players from Metro ATL we'd be top 5 every year. That kind of staff might just do it.
