I'm starting to come around on the Smart hire. If he keeps Pruitt, B-Mac, Rocker, and Brown; I'd be ok with it. I just want an offensive guy (with a pairing with Pruitt) to see what our football team is truly capable of. I was reading last night, that UGA, would in fact be a short term deal with Herman. If Texas, A&M, or even a Baylor would open up, he probably would be gone. Kirby would be here long term.

I will go with Smart. Just for smoother transition, retention of staff, and recruiting.

However, I would feel better with an offensive minded HC, so I am on the fence a bit.

that's a big point to consider. We don't want to be in a UT/kiffin situation where a guy could bolt after 1 or 2 years then have to start all over.

Smart is a grand slam recruiter. As is Pruitt. I have full confidence that Kirby would bring in an OC that is about the same. That 3 headed monster would be a serious force on the recruiting trail. Richt is a great person and father figure to these young men, theres no doubting that, but Kirby is trained and molded under saban and knows what we have to do to get trophys and NFL caliber players. Kirby would not be a bad hire, especially if we get to keep Pruitt

I like Smart, I like defense, and I'd be fine with Smart.

I would prefer Herman though. I look at his resume and see success at multiple stops as a coordinator. Only 1 year of HC experience, but it was a highly successful one. Also, I just think that sometimes you need to go outside of your comfort zone and bring in some fresh ideas. Not that Kirby would be without his own set of ideas, but as a conference it just seems that there has been a lot of inbreeding of coaching staffs lately. So getting an outsider could give Georgia a leg up.

I didn't think about that when I voted.

The heart wants Herman, the head wants Smart.

That's a key point that no one is talking about. I don't think Herman would leave Georgia for Baylor, and 50/50 he would leave for aTm, but if Texas came calling he'd be on the first flight out.

I guess it's only natural to make the best of things....I was pretty sour on kirby unless it was a fallback option, but now that things appear like he's our target and we can probably get him, I'm looking at the postives.

Make no mistake, saban is the best coach we've seen in a while. If not in many of our lifetimes of watching football. BUT, even with that said, he's playing with a stacked deck by having a top 2 recruiting class the last like 8 years.

A staff of kirby/pruitt/mclendon/brown would absolutely rape on the recruiting trail. If we can find a halfway decent OC to go along with pruitt/smart's defense...we could make some serious noise. I have nothing but positives to say about richt, but sometimes you just need a change. We seemed to be stagnant the last 3 years so maybe a shakeup will give us new life and invigorate the program, and kirby seems like a good enough fit to do just that.

Why? Herman is from California, born in Ohio.

He's spent the majority of his coaching career in Texas.

Herman would do a complete overhaul of the staff. Maybe keep a few lower guys, but pruitt and schotty would be gone.

Might big assumption here. I would think otherwise.

The first 10 years of his coaching tenure were all in TX (Texas Lutheran, UT, SHS, Tx St, Rice). Then after 5 years up north went back to Houston.

The guy has spent most of his life in Texas and it's what he knows and likes. It's been widely said that Texas is his dream job and obviously, strong aint gonna last much longer there.

Played at Texas and GA'd at aTm, or the other way around.

He played at California Lutheran. GA at Texas for 2 years, which isn't worthy of such fear.

Someone was saying Tyson Helton from WKU as OC for Kirby. That intrigues me. We need a young, hungry innovator calling plays. Not just stodgy Pro-style as we've seen over the last few years. I think someone like that would be chomping at the bit to get a hold of someone with the skill set of Eason.

Edited my post when I found out I was wrong about where he played, but he still has spent most of his coaching career in Texas. I would think he'll be on UT's short list when they eventually fire Strong and that's an awfully hard job to turn down.

Widely? I bet he spent more time in California. He has spent 11 years in Texas, but that's mostly by convenience of job hopping up the ladder. This isn't a kiffin situation at all. Uga is on the level of the Texas job.

Check out his offensive numbers. That's what we need and Eason would win the heisman.

Hadn't heard the A&M or Baylor ones....but I suspect A&M will open up sooner rather than later.....as in a couple of years.
