Athletics director Greg McGarity said Georgia was eyeing "memorable" games next decade against teams that play in "iconic stadiums." He estimated that such a series could be announced within four-to-five months.

How much do you want UGA to play Penn State?
FTR, this sounds cool

No no no. Our schedule is tough enough that it cost vs benefit is not worth it. And spare me the crap about "if we're the best we'll beat them anyways". It's a grueling season, we don't need extra hurdles.

This is so utterly stupid it's hard to wrap my head around. Did we learn nothing from damon's "increase the brand" experiment?
The SEC is hard enough as it is. Throw in our auto OOC game with tech every year and we're left with 3 tune up games. It makes absolutely no sense to exchange one of those with yet another "high profile" game that we have an equal chance of winning as losing. It's even more idiotic when you consider that now we also have playoffs to think about, adding one MORE hard as shite game on the way to a national title.
Yeah it's fun for the fans and all, and I'll go wherever we play, but ya know what's more fun? Winning a fricking title (I assume, I've never seen one). The odds of us winning one go up exponentially by playing as many easy games as we can instead of shite like this.
Yeah, worked out so great for us getting back to athens from Tempe at like 6am on sunday with a massive SEC game waiting on us the next weekend.
I had a great time in tempe, boulder, and stillwater. But fact is we lost 2 of those games. I enjoyed the experience, but I would've enjoyed a win just as much.

Don't be a puss. It would be way more entertaining to play a penn state than charleston southern. More hype, exposure, etc. plus it's just a mediocre big 10 ten that just has a lot of history
This strategy has worked out well for Bama

entertaining? Obviously. Practical as it relates to our ultimate goal of winning a title? Not even remotely close. It's all fun until you lose.

And my preference worked out for florida, who won 2 nattys in 3 years by doing what they had to do in the SEC and playing scrubs OOC. In fact, UF lost an SEC game in both 06 and 08 and still won a title, based on the strength of winning the SEC.

What would be entertaining is to win a National Championship. The path to that is cupcakes between the SEC schedule, with GT as a constant. I remember too many years where UF was 6-0 playing nobody while we had a loss to someone like Colorado State or Clemson that we should not have been playing. A loss is very harmful, a win is just another win.
We would have enough quality wins in the SEC to not need another quality win.

More than you can possibly imagine. I already texted my PSU buddies. I want to DESTROY them in their sacred valley.

all.of.this.
If we only have ~1ish SEC losses (plus beating tech) and win the SEC, chances are pretty strong we're in the top 4 and in the playoffs. Having a win in one of these games is nice for bragging rights and all, but really doesn't HELP us much. Whereas a loss is completely detrimental and could be a season ender. It's just not worth it.

Yea, but we beat all three when they came to Athens. Would you go to Athens to see Georgia play Ohio State or USCw? We get them here by agreeing to go there. The new playoff system will put more emphasis on quality of win and less on a close loss to a top team.
We can't win the NC if we don't get into the playoffs.

Funny, I think of showers when I think of Penn State too.

And went 1-2 on the road. Pretty sure these high profile games aren't just going to be in Athens.

I would go to Athens to watch us play anybody. I would rather walk out of Sanford with a W against a nobody than a loss against Ohio State. Would you not?

you're exactly right. And you get to the playoffs by winning as many games as possible in your first 12/13 games. Playing ohio state or usc diminishes our chances of that.

FYI, Jerry world is now an "Iconic Stadium." McGarity has already ruled out Michigan and tOSU so it could very well be another Neutral site game in a pro stadium somewhere (as someone mentioned on Seth Emerson's twitter feed, rubber match vs Nebraska in Tampa. MAKE IT HAPPEN).

I think the playoff committee is gonna start looking real hard at strength of schedule when picking playoff teams. Could be a good thing when it comes to us loosing a big SEC game or SEC Championship during the season.

"High Profile"
We scheduled Oregon, we scheduled OSU, both got cancelled.
Michigan is out of the question.
We got ND scheduled.
Not sure what other name, besides Penn St, that makes sense. I guess they're high profile enough.
I would just like to see us play LSU and Alabama sometime other than once in a blue moon

"High Profile"
I'm ok with playing "mid tier" teams like a clemson, lousville, north carolina, etc. Those carry a brand name recognition higher than a rent a win, but there's far more likliehood of a win, which SHOULD be the bottom line goal. Playing oregon, ohio state, michigan, usc, etc simply does us no good other than fans wanting a vacation.
