From DawgNation . . LINK . . .
Some interesting trends in here. Seems like the more popular the sport and the larger the team, the lower the grade point average gets.
Anybody notice any other trends? Besides the one that will get you banned, that is . .

Pretty impressive that the dudes who travel the most, and travel the most frequently and the furthest, and also who practice and play the most (and mainly in three-day matches)....
..would also have the highest cumulative GPA.
Well done.

I notice sports with the word "ball" in their names have teams with lower cumulative GPAs.

Basketball 2.90
Baseball 2.87
Football 2.68
Not sure what that means though..

Larger size of the athlete correlated with grades.
Not perfectly, but in general those sports at the top (particularly golf, tennis and Cross Country) of the grade distribution are smaller guys, while the sports toward the bottom (particularly football and basketball) have larger guys.
It's also cool to see the three sports we consistently win the most conference titles in are at 1, 2, and 3 each on this list.

How baseball and basketball is graded higher than football, I'll never know.

Seems legit. You're blinding me with science

Perhaps there is a strong correlation between a high GPA and the ability to swim

Have to recruit good students due to the crazy travel schedules. Plus, these students are likely to have already been brought up with private tutoring as they played the youth circuits. Same goes for their female counterparts and Gymnastics.

Usually just good students in high school, similair to Equestrian students. Unless you're an olympic talent, so many high schoolers swim that you can afford to take the better students over those who may pose a risk of flunking out due to the talent pool.

Recruiting and the race for talent dictates who gets taken, not academic acumen. Many students either went to poor, failing schools or were simply passed on due to athletic ability and quasi-celebrity status leaving them underprepared for college.

The Meathead scale. Of course! Good call..
I'm willing to bet that if you laid the Tattoo scale on top of the Meathead scale, that you'd find similiar correlations too . .

Simple...
How many strokes does it take to make a hole-in-one?
is an easier question than
How many points does a 3-point field goal account for in a Basketball Game?
