I can appreciate that perspective but I just respectfully disagree. In Fulmer's case he might not have gotten fired if he had not become an object of ridicule and not lost control of his team. When a coach loses control of his team it's a sure sign of lack of respect for their coach by the players. I'm not saying that Fulmer's overweight condition was the main source of said disrespect but I can easily see it being one factor.

Fulmer was an Offensive Lineman when he played football. Most of them get big after they stop playing. They are also typically the smartest players on the team.

You're connection of weight to coaching ability isn't just silly ... it's stupid. It also makes you come off as very shallow and superficial. Things that I am certain aren't true.

Perhaps you missed his second go 'round? Calling him terrible almost insults the very concept of terribleness.

Actually I'm not saying there is a direct connection with coaching ability and obesity. No doubt there are knowledgeable coaches who are obese. What I am saying is that being extremely overweight is a negative aspect in any occupation but especially in athletics in which the contrast is stark with physically fit young men. If you can't agree with that obvious/logical conclusion, then I would suggest that it is you who is being silly/stupid.

Anyone not disciplined enough to manage their own weight is certainly not in a reasonable position to be teaching discipline on the football field. And if I was the parent of a star athlete, Jim Chaney coming into my home to recruit my son is not the positive image of a coach whom I would want my son to play for.

Possibly but it's the truth none the less; obesity is a problem both in terms of health and public appearance.

Apparently not.

Then there's no reason to fire him for being fat. Way to shite on your own argument.
