Kirby Smart comes from the Saban school of coaching where talent is paramount. Every decision is based on creating the most talented and deep team possible.

In that context, the Chaney hire makes complete sense.

But Richt didn't call plays or coach the QBs. He said as much when he was let go. He said he wanted to calls plays and coach QBs again. So it was all Schottenheimer and Bobo before that and Eason still never waivered. Even after Richt was fired the Easons all stated it was about who came in at OC and the scheme they brought. Chaney, for all of his lackluster stats has had some iffy QBs and managed to get something out of them. I'm like a few on here and will reserve my judgement of Chaney until we see him call plays and also see how prepared the guys are when it's gameday.

One year later...literally the very next year, arkansas's offense improved by leaps and bounds with the exact same players.

And Arkansas' best RB (arguably) tore his ACL before the season even started. I remember loving their playcalling against us last year, because they started passing the ball a ton on the second drive, after they had just run all over us on the first. Now, that is going to be our playcaller.

All we need is a solid offense that can sustain drives. We don't have to fun and gun it or sling it all over the field. The one knock on him is he gets pass happy. I think with guys like Chubb in the backfield he won't get too crazy with the passing.

While it is an uninspiring hire, I think it was a safe hire. CKS knew if he swung for the fences and missed on an up-and-comer that he'd be criticized for not going with experience. Regardless, we were all going to scrutinize the OC hire and examine it with a fine toothed comb. We will have talent and hopefully this will help overcome any deficiencies we may or may not have at the OC spot. Feed Chubb and get monsters in the trenches on both sides.

That's probably the main, biggest thing that arkansas fans keep repeating. He will copmletely at random just abandon the run adn start throwing. The common theme seems to be that the guy definitley knows Xs and Os, and to start games when he has an established script everyone was pleased. But when he needed to call plays on teh fly or after defenses adjusted, he's just completely clueless. I think I Read on their board that in an interview after a win this past season Bielema even said something along the lines of "sure is nice having a guy who knows when to call a pass and when to call a run". Ouch.

But like I said earlier, hopefully with the guys we'll have on offense to go along wiht a kirby-led defense we'll just be able to overcome his incompetence anyway.

Sidenote: Bielema is incredibly unprofessional.

Carry on.

Hopefully, but that kind of incompetence is bound to cost us a game somewhere along the line.

Well, if you think the hire sucks I tend to agree not only because it sucks on paper but also because you are generally positive about things.

Plus the fact the AJC said it's good clearly means is terrible.

Joker was tossing it to that boss TE that they had IIRC.

I'd love to see UGA develop a real TE game again. I miss Orson Charles, Leonard Pope, and Ben Watson.

Those guys got 30-40 receptions a year and many were clutch type catches on third downs. We were for a little while dubbed TE University and rightfully so. Not knocking Blaze but he has 13 receptions this year, 31 in the last two years.

Don't forget Arthur Lynch. Dude's hands left a lot to be desired. I could remember a number of clutch dropped TDs across the middle, but kid had heart for days, and was a favorite target of Murray.

Would have been true even if we had made a "home run" hire

Bert just skyrocketed to the top of my list of douchiest SEC coaches, after talking shite about Pittman. And that's in a league where Butch Jones is the resident jackbag Royale...

Can't knock Blaze when they didn't call his name very often this year.

No knock on him at all, just putting in perspective how we have lost that dimension of our offense.

^^^this x1000. Kirby & the new staff sent Pittmans wife some nice red roses with a welcome note/card. In the pic the Pittmans have a...Bulldog. Haha And the Arky fans seem to be insanely salty and douchey as well. Where do they think Arkansas ranks as far as a state and in CFB? They act like it's the greatest job at the greatest place on Earth..they need to get a clue. I'm still in shock that non HCs sign a non-compete clause with that place.

Apparently it's the only way that fat Yankee frick can get folks to stay and work for him. I would've loved for Kirby to have waltzed into Fayetteville and taken Pittman AND Enos. You would have heard the Arky sonic boom from here.
