There's a side that wants us to be the moral superior school and a southern ivy league school, and there's the side that wants championship no matter what.
That's probably a common scenario at major universities. They had a raging war at Penn State University for years, and the championship guys won every battle. It culminated in a situation where the ends justified any means, and then everyone got fired and the school got put on probation.
That's why rules are useful, they serve as a line that demarcates the slippery slope.

Yea without knowing the facts there's nothing for us to really go by, but disagreement and confusion within the department in an issue like this is really bad. It also implies it's not as clear cut as was thought, obviously.
I'm about done with McGarity. People can defend him saying he learned from Foley or whatever, but Foley would have never let shite like this happen. This whole Gurley fiasco has been chaos from the start, and UGA's just giving us the Animal House "All is well!" routine.

I'm starting to think this week long mess might be spilling over to the team too. If their focus is split on Ark, Gurley, rumors in the media, rumors outta Butts Mehre etc. I'm starting to get a bad feeling about where the teams head will be at tomorrow...

This is a weekend primed for a let down based on your points, regardless of who we are playing.
Unless they are great at compartmentalizing, it could be a long day.

I'm not trying to be negative about this whole situation. I think from here on out I'm just going to pretend we won't see Gurley back this season, and just have some good faith that Marshall and Sony heal up nicely. I hate South Carolina with every ounce of my existence, but I love watching Spurrier's press conferences because he is extremely comical and quite honest. I'm about done watching our press coverages, I think I could get more information about a brick wall at this point. If you don't want to tell us anything, just cancel the press conferences.
As much as I would love to see Gurley with us back in Atlanta, and with the heisman out the window for him, it is probably in his best interest to step aside and start training for his paycheck. Nothing gives me that impression about Gurley, but I certainly wouldn't blame him if he does go that route.

I think you are in the minority here. He is beloved in Athens and made a commitment to his team and teammates, if he can return and there is still a chance for this team to go all the way, he should. If he doesnt people will lose a lot of respect for him.

Don't get me wrong, I want nothing more then to see him back in a red jersey, but say it is a four game suspension and we lose the next three games, he would be coming back to play in a mediocre bowl possibly risking injury. However, I'm sure he is very committed to Georgia.

At the end of the day, even though I understand his family situation, he just shouldn't have taken the money.

Really? So a "commitment to his team" is knowingly doing something that will have consequences, even against said team?

Gurley doesn't owe anybody at UGA anything. I won't think any less of him if he leaves, especially given his family's situation.

All you hand wringers need to put your big boy pants on. The other players are a lot more concerned about things like their own performance, playing time, beating pigs. UGA will show up.

I dont think people would fault im if we were firmly out of the SEC race, but if this team still has 1 loss and he doesnt come back whenever he is allowed then there will be riots.

I think you missed the point of my post.

He doesnt owe anybody anything in that sense I suppose. But when you do something selfish like he did it affects every other player on the team who worked hard to win the SEC and the playoffs. If we beat Arkansas and he is reinstated but chooses not to return it is a slap in the face to his peers imo.
