Hearing a lot of Gibbs to UTk talk

Seriously, frick that. It's eating Kirby alive that he is getting heat for letting Brown and Price leave the state knowing he only had a month to work with.

Got a feeling Kirby will not let any top prospect leave the state in 2017. He knows that is the class that will be 30+

Like he texted Nate McBrides dad recently: "I will not lose your son to Alabama". Kirby is locking down GA in '17

I hear this thrown out there a lot. It takes a lot to "lock down" a state... even if we know it's a bit of hyperbole, I take that to mean that you close on at least half of the top 10, and generally get your pick of the guys in the top 30 that you want. I feel like the only way this happens is if we have some pretty outstanding results on the field this year. There are going to be a fair number of guys out there that just don't like UGA for whatever reason... You can work to turn em, but at some point you've gotta recognize it's time to cut bait and run. For me, if he can land the 15-20 best guys in state that he wants and then cherry pick 10-15 (assuming class size of about 30 with EEs) from out of state, it's probably a good sign. The key thing though is 17 is a year where you must overfill "need" positions, particularly OL. Need to identify any "Ben Cleveland" types in state and get on them now, then start figuring out who else would be the next most likely targets, then let Pittman's coaching shine this season hopefully.

Spent the day with a non-UGA guy who's son is good friends with an ex auburn player. Simply put, there are certain kids we will never sign. It was common knowledge from this AU players perspective that we won't do certain things. Take it for what it's worth.

I do, too, and....frankly, I don't care if we lock down the state as long as we get great players from somewhere. Some of our best players have been out of state players and I'm good with that.

Note: Did not do the work to put this together, but thought it might be helpful to have some iteration of it in this thread to keep track of scholarships. If someone wants to take and reformat, I'm happy to send link to original post via email.. just don't have the patience to go back and link all the targets.

Doing a quick projection of player attrition, this was my first pass. If we lost the following due to attrition/early departures/processing, we would have ~32 available scholarships. I don't think this was a totally outlandish projection, but even if there are fewer departures, that 27-30 number that's been thrown out could be within reason.

You can add Hockman to that list for QB's. Now that we have Simmons he might be able to reel him in

We have Greyson Lambert on scholarship as well.

At least, I'm pretty confident we do.

2016 is his last year, though, isn't it? He'll be gone for the 2017 recruiting cycle. (I might be misinterpreting your comment or this thread, though!)

I get confused with that stuff, too, sometimes. And some of the names...(Jauan, Jawaun, Jayuan, etc)

No worries at all man. It's tough keeping it all straight. I'm pretty sure I could not have compiled this list by myself without going cross eyed a couple of times.

Just a thought, but any chance you would want to try and restructure it (or part of it) and put it into post #4, and combine commits with OVs in post 1? Might be helpful to keep track of later next season as we see what shakes out from a roster movement perspective.

Is anyone else scared to death about our offer list? We/Kirby should be like back in the day when you were in year 5 of your dynasty on NCAA. Only offer 5 and 4 star players until maybe like December, then if you need some more players for some reason target a few in-state 3 stars.

It's only February and we've already offered a few NFSs (non-five stars). This is shite.

I actually like that idea a lot. I'll do it and see how it looks and we can decide whether we want to keep it that way.

Not sure that I'm scared, but it is slightly disconcerting. At this point, I'm going to trust Kirby's evaluations *and* also hope that some of these lower rated guys don't have "officially commitable" offers and that they're aware of it. It is early and if we don't have some attrition and early departures, the numbers will be a little limited for 17.

All I know is, Pittman better have himself 2-3 trademark OTs lined up for next year that are ready to come compete and make sure Eason stays on his feet. Ideally one of them maybe being like the top JUCO LT or something.

If it ends up looking like shite, might put together a google doc or something where we can keep it updated. Just keep me posted.

Just remember that guys like Vic Beasely, Chance Warmack, and James Carpenter were all kids from GA that were listed as 2 and 3* recruits that went on to be first round draft picks for Clemson and Bama, respectively.

Clearly my intent was wildly off the mark...that was supposed to be a joke

I definitely don't think that way.
